And of course the beautiful Mellotron extravaganza from Greenslade on Tide!

The Moog sounds very spectacular but the Mellotron is superior because it is pure emotion and that's what progrock often needs! I prefer the choir-Mellotron section from the M400, mindblowing and so compelling!
My favorites tracks: BJH-Child Of The Unvierse/King Crimson-The Court Of The Crimson King/Genesis-Afterglow(Seconds Out version)/Museo Rosenbach-Zarathustra/Fantasy-Alanderie/Epidaurus-Actions And Reactions/Outer Limites-The Scene Of Pale Blue/Anekdoten-intro Karelia ....

Has to be the mighty 'tron. Seminal sound of prog rock.
And here's another plug for G-Force's M-tron software. Just the job for those of us that cannot fit a full blown mellotron in the house!

Yeah nice poll; good respite from endless 'versus' threads.
I really love both sounds; they are very '70s' but this adds to their appeal for me. There's a real thrill for me at hearing Keith Emerson or Rick Wakeman really show off on the Moog, but there's a resonance and beauty from the mellotron. Also, the late 70s Moog sounds were ugly, so the mellotron narrowly wins out.

Two instruments that were in many ways responsiable for Prog and are synonimous with the genre... which do you prefur?
For me, its got to be the Mellotron. Matching Mole's 'O, Caroline' and Greenslade's 'Featherd Friends' are proof alone of its beutiful sound. Unlike the Moog, it didnt sell out in the 80s as well. But please, what are your thoughts?
