Tedium? What's that supposed to mean? What is "tedium" in guitar playing by his definition? Or is tedium just his way of saying "something I do not understand which is not an annoyingly repeated guitar riff?"

in my car for a long time on Friday evening (this was due to M60 Manchester closure and ensuing grid-lock) - I had just listened to all of Red Queen/Rain Dancers (Gryphon) when I then switched the radio onto Radio GMR and they were discussing the 40th? Anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster! - They had a rock critic on expounding the virtues of Hank Marvin/Jimmy Page etc and then he went on to the Guitarist who bored everyone to death with tedium...The guitarist was of course Steve Howe (My favourite as it happens) the Music of Yes was then played as an example of mindless tedium.......I was (again) furious as my muscial taste was again denegrated by the popular media...Prog rock the music industries pariah and the paragon of bad-taste......When will it throw off such misconceptions and get the credit it deserves!
