The Owl, is known to occasionally turn out a CD. I'm not in a live band at the present time, having been concentrating on doing the studio thing though I do envision a return to live performing. I'd have to say my biggest influences musically were Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra and composers like Ravel, Debussy and Stravinsky. Currently, I write and record instrumental prog that tends towards symphonic and fusion with some dashes of Zeuhl and other odd flavorings. My instruments are guitar and bass guitar, plus i do a little keyboards (nothing horrifically technical, more for atmosphere and harmonic coloring, I WON'T give guys like Chick Corea or Patrick Moraz sleepless nights anyday soon). At the present time, I have ZERO inerest in doing vocal prog, it just never clicked for me though I do enjoy listening to it, I just can't write vocal tunes to save my life. My newest disc just became available on CD Baby : www.cdbaby.com/cd/owlwatches and the samples should give you a decent picture of what I'm up to creatively.

People are puzzled why I don't dig the Stones, well, I listened to the Stones, I tried, and I tried, and I tried, and--I Can't Get No Satisfaction!

I play guitar in a band, inactive at the moment due to studies etc. I'm 25 and our first demo came out 6 years ago. Name of the band: Coy (based in Greece) playing sth like Pantera and old Metallica, not prog, although it has some proggy elements that's all, we could have produced our 2nd demo somewhat 3 years ago if our producer hadnt f######ed our recordings........ |

I think of myself as a musical experimentalist: my influences are mainly Rock and 20th Century Classical. I have composed and recorded some extremely diverse pieces ranging from straight Rock to avant-garde electronic "sound painting". I've also written orchestral music, including symphonies. I've been making music of some kind or other since 1978 (although the early stuff makes me cringe now!)
I work alone (although I did form a couple of bands in the 80's) and my ultimate aim is to try to amalgamate all my musical tastes into a single unified sound (for example, atonalism with a strong beat - a little trick that Schoenberg missed!) I also allow all my music to be downloaded for free from my website at http://www.herring.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk. I make my own CDs too, including the cover artwork. I am currently trying to work out how to sell these online. I sold some through Ebay a couple of years ago but had some bad experiences with them, so I'm looking for another method. If anyone can help me out I'd be extremely grateful. I also write weird (and sometimes humourous) poetry and other things; all this is on the website too. I wrote a sequel to Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky that is quite popular in some circles! I'm also in the process of writing a book on the development of the Classical Symphony. My music is not to everyone's tastes, but being so diverse in styles I would like to think that everyone could relate to at least one of my compositions, and as it's free you've got no excuse not to dip in and try some pieces out! Very trippy music, ViolinCyndee - I like it! You've played with some amazing musicians - and that is one cool violin.
I have a corner of MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/Certif1ed. I've been playing piano since I was 4 - but there's no piano in these tracks. I'm a qualified singing teacher, but I only do backing vocals on one track. I taught myself a few chords on the guitar when I was 12, and have never looked back... or forwards. I didn't learn any more chords, as these songs show I currently record with a work colleague who owns 14 keyboards and a mini PC-based studio. It's hard to say what our influences are - he listens to a lot of Gary Numan, Peter Gabriel, Rob Zombie and Nine Inch Nails, while I listen to just about anything - although my main influences are probably NWOBHM and late 1990s trance music. It's hard to say what our music sounds like - the concept is to produce a blend of rock, electronica and stuff we like, but primarily to write songs until we find a style we like - then experiment around it. A few people have said we sound like Kevin Moore / OSI / Chroma Key - but, having never heard their music, I can't verify this. I'm responsible for all guitars and roughly 70% of composition and keyboards, while Andy does a great job of the vocals and 90% of the mixing and production. We both write lyrics that are basically about things going wrong - ordinary stuff that happens in the real world but most people choose to ignore in the hope it'll go away. We're realists |

violincyndee i really like the way you play the violin. I have been playing the violin for 2 years and I play in a high school metal band. We've only been playing for 2 months together. We have a female lead vocalist, 2 guitars, 2 violins and a drummer and we still need a bass player. The major influences in the band are dream theater, metallica and other metal bands. Personally, my influences are psichodellic rock specially pink floyd and jazz. We play covers of Pull me under, Nightwish's Nemo, mago de oz, angra and many metallica songs. we are currently working on our own songs and we hope to get to recording soon. Although we are from mexico, the vocalist rather sing and compose in english. |

I just got a demo of recording software, I'll get the full version soon I hope... anyway I've done a cover version of the extremely obscure theme song for "King Koopa's Kool Kartoons" (don't ask why), a hip-hop remix of "moonlight on vermont", some annoying repetitive techno loops, and I'm working on a "Batman" medley inspired by online fads, John Zorn, and various inside jokes right now. My recording equipment includes a lego camera. My personnel are myself and two friends who play clarinet and saxophone sometimes. My instrumental credits are guitarist, bassist, and keyboardist, as well as cheap 'Beatbox' drumloop programmer. Since I don't have the full version, all songs must be in 4/4 if I want any drums at all. But $20 should get me where I want. |
