After the UK Seventies prog, the Italian progrock scene is my favorite one. My #1 band is Le Orme: varied and bombastic keyboards, melancholical vocals and warm acoustic guitars, an unique combination of emotion and technique! Felona e sorona is my favorite album. Along the other masters (Banco, PFM), I like New Trolls (Searching for a land is great), Cherry Five (great Yes-inspired band with lots of Moogs), Men Of Lake (wonderful romantic atmosphere), Museo Rosenbach (Mellotron!), Standarte (Cursus and invocations is loaded with Hammond, Moog and Mellotron), Sensitiva Immagine (the Italian version of Selling.. from Genesis). I need a few more pages to express my love for the Italian prog .. FORZA ITALIA!! |

Wonderful album, by Locanda Delle Fate. One of my favourite Italian albums. PFM is my favourite Italian band. They got both the technique and the soul. I only like the 1st period though (Storia Di Un Minuto, and especially Per Un Amico and L'Isola Di Niente ) |

Come to think of it, recently I bought an album by a relatively new Italian band, named Areknames. Not bad at all, VDGG inspired (vocals remind me of Hammill), but still very Italian sounding. |

The poll is "favorite," not most important, most influential, etc. I would not argue that PFM is arguably the most influential Italian prog band, since they predate almost everyone else (though Banco del Mutuo Soccorso was also pretty early, as were a couple of others), and thus almost every other Italian prog band owes a "debt" to them. However, for my money, there are few prog bands playing today - in any country - who can match the level of composition, musicianship, production, sophistication, and sheer excitement of Deus ex Machina. |

No Maxophone? Well in the absence of them it's a contest between Banco, Osanna and Goblin. I'm not very near a conclusion though... |

PFM , but I'm fairly ignorant about them(and Italian prog in general) to be honest with only Chocolate Kings and a 'best of' compilation in my collection.Any band that once had ELP as it's opening band at a concert must be good!

OK I'm going to have to go with PFM also, but I really like Locanda Della Fate a lot too. If you were going with more recent vintage I'd go with Finisterre. And Le Orme has done some wonderful work both earlier and lately, so maybe I should vote for them? Or maybe Cleste? No, I'm going with PFM. Per Un Amico does it for me, then L'Isola di Niente-- then Storia Di Un Minuto-- in that order. You guys should have split it into decades and given Finisterre, Ezra Winston, and Deux Ex Machina some consideration. How about just the best in the last 5-10 yrs? |

Other: Tale Cue I'm a BMS, PFM, Le Orme, etc... fan. But definitely, "Voices Beyond My Curtain" is the ultimate Italian prog band to me. Maybe if the poll was about 70's band... I would've said without even hesitating, PFM

Darwin is the best album ever released by an Italian band, so I voted for Banco del Mutuo Soccorso (Even when the poll names the English version of the band simply called Banco, which has a very inferior quality than the Italian original versions). Le Orme is a close second especially for Felona e Sorona. Iván |
