[quote}Not sure about that. There is an interesting discussion in another thread about how Gong, Tangerine Dream etc. were maybe forerunners of todays trance-ambient music which is super cool at the clubs and raves. If trance is an offshoot of prog then prog is pretty cool.[/quote]
I don't agree, people in trance-ambient parties, discos or raves don't give a damn who is playing, which band is which band, even ELP knowing that, released re-works (A trance-rave mix) to gain new audience, but it was crap even for raves.
People at those parties just follow the beat and the work done by the Dj's adding sounds and synthetized rhythms, this doesn't mean Gong or Tangerine Dream are cool bands, ask any of the guys there who are Gong or Tangerine Dream and 99'9% won't have a fu**ing idea.
I stand in my point, since I'm 13 (1977) and a Proghead, our beloved music hasn't been remotely cool, they called us nerds, trekkies-Sci Fi nuts, Mythological idiots, insane, potsmokers, pompous bast*rds, snobs, etc.
I thought since Dream Theater, Prog Metal was considered cool, but last weel a member of PA told me that they were seen as satanist and addicts (a common stereotype) receiving a lot of pressure not even from Rap or Hip Hop fans (Which are the most today), but also from religious groups, so I believe things are still the same.
A cool band has the support of the radios, DJ's and musical industry, Prog as a genre never had it (except for a couple of bands).
So I insist Prog isn't cool, never was and most surely never will.

I think Marylin Manson is very uncool. His biggest hits are covers of 80's pop songs and his "own"
songs contain borrowed themes of David Bowie and Faith No More. He has not more vocal talents than I have.
The whole MM thing is a hoax and I find it rather disgusting.

If I cared for cool bands would be in the wrong forum.
Learn something once and forever: PROG' IS NOT COOL, NEVER WAS AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL.

Cool or uncool does not mean good or bad. I love Judas Priest and I have every album they ever made. But I put them in there - I don't mind if somebody thinks they are not cool.
Yes Huey Lewis and Hootie might get a lot of votes.

Judas Priest' music has influenced so many good metal bands out there, they are definately not uncool in that department.
Unlike U2, they don't think are the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Unfortunately, they have become a parody of themselves with the leather, studs, motorcycles etc.
Yes, KISS and other glam/hair bands are the same, but no one ever took them seriously.
There is too much in the film Rock Star that is true.

why dont more people hate journey? everyone in that band sucks except steve smith (the drummer), but that's only because he quit journey to study jazz.
and why does everyone hate U2? sure Bono is annoying, but the Edge is a serious BAMF.

Ehhh....... You think Neal Schon sucks, and the edge is a serious BAMF? Have you ever heard or seen schon play? He is an amazing guitarist!! Very underrated.

Are you sure about this? As far as I can make out U2 have been
cool for most of their career, whereas it's definitely not cool to
listen to most the other bands.

Sinner, you totally jacked my avatar.
Oh yeah, and U2 is uncool- not to mention the fact The Edge totally dissed prog in Guitar World a couple of months ago.
Yeah, and what makes your "minimalistic" playing style or whatever it's called so much better?
Nothing.

U2 is the lamest band full of no talent pricks I've seen in my entire
life. The guitarist's nickname "the edge" is a testament to
how incredibly un-cool they are. I hate Bono on a personal level
and if I saw him in person I would beat the crap out of him and I'm
dead serious. Bono is so freakin lame and so is "the edge" who
always wears a skullcap. Seriously, they suck soo bad.
Everything about them from the "custom U2" red and black IPOD to the
fact that they would think so much of themselves and overestimate their
influence to the point that they would name their album "how to
dismantle an atomic bomb" makes me cringe. And Bono is a no
talent hack who can't even play guitar, and just the name U2 is so
incredibly lame it would even be lame if it was a boy band name, let
alone a rock band, which they aren't.

Starship is the worst. Loved the Airplane stuff, but "Built this City" is one of
those awful songs that get stuck repeating in my head for hours as soon as I
think about it. And now its starting, AAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIEEEEEE .....

Out of those listed, I picked U2. I would rather be sodomized with a rusty steel pole than be subjected to a full album of their material.

U2's Bono acts as if--and probably thinks--he's the second coming of
Christ. The dude ought to get a grip. I don't think I've seen someone so full
of themselves before.
