I guess that it's not so seldom to be Metal fan before turning to Prog aficionado.

If much of 1970s' Heavy Metal has turned into Hard Rock, then I can understand that there's not much Hard Rock in The Who, but then, I still don't really get it with Heart. Big smile

barely re-entered thru the chimney after being kicked out the door, and you're already a nuisance, Svettie PigPinchNuke

given how wide the answers have been (certainly don't see The Who as Hard Rock), Heart was considered by a lot as a Zep copycat by some. Good enough for me.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

is hard rock? Are you sure? Regardless of how Wikipedia labels them
these days, I've always thought of the 70s Heart as a 'Rock' band, like The Who or The Kinks.
Yes I sort of do. Heart certainly owes a lot to Led Zep on their two first albums. But it's not clear cut. Like many 1970's albums you'll find a little bit of Pop, Rock, Folk Rock and Hard Rock on the same album. Crazy on You, Magic Man, White Lightning and Wine, Sing Child is 70's Hard Rock to my ears. That's enough for me. Some include specific The Who albums here too. The Kinks and Heart have next to nothing in common though.

^^ For me, Technical Ecstasy has a very strong personal nostalgic element. I do acknowledge the first six albums as absolute classics. I actually love all eight albums. In the case of Never Say Die, although it has always been my least favourite, I do find the change in sound to be quite interesting, and in more recent times, I am developing a greater love for the album, and especially the track Air Dance. As for the first six albums, I love them all pretty much equally.

Before I was a Van der Graaf Generator fan, I was a Black Sabbath fan.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

If I had allowed myself to be a little more eclectic and accepted everything RYM tags "Hard Rock", these would have been included somewhere:

Jethro Tull - Benefit
Blue Phantom - Distortions
Flower Travellin' Band - Satori
High Tide - Sea Shanties
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking

-but I do not think of any of them primarely as Hard Rock myself. Same goes for Alice in Chains (Dirt) and Soundgarden (Batmotorfinger). Those are both closer to Heavy Rock bordering on Metal to me.

Yes my absolute favorite song of his, but I love Love it to Death to death.

Prog fans are the weirdest - they might as well go for In Through the Out Door (ok, which is half great), Coda and...

I'm trying to think if I have a mostly disliked non fan favorite like that as my personal favorite. I guess I do with Trans by Neil Young, but that's bacause I don't genuinely enjoy his "normal music".

I am absolutely DIGGING this thread!   Thanks for all of the Alice Cooper love!

The first bands I ever saw on the big rock & roll stage were Captain Beyond and Alice Cooper, 28 July, 1972!

Right now, my 12 would be:

Killer: Alice Cooper
School's Out: Alice Cooper
Billion Dollar Babies: Alice Cooper
Captain Beyond: Captain Beyond
Fireball: Deep Purple
Foce It: UFO
Zoso: Led Zeppelin
Houses of the Holy: Led Zeppelin
Sabbath Volume 4: Black Sabbath
Heaven & Hell: Black Sabbath

I've played a lot of this material in various garage bands, great fun!  "Halo of Flies" on Killer is supreme!
