There is something to appreciate (at least some songs or entire albums) in most of these and some that I enjoy very much. I hesitate here to vote for either The Flower Kings or Transatlantic: two of the most exquisite "prog by numbers" bands that exist, in my opinion. I'll give it to TFK...

Ther's more than one in the list to whom I can't get into. But I think Queensryche is the one.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Voted for The Mars Volta (least liked) instead of Magenta (most liked).

It seems quite odd for a PF fan to pick Eloy out of a list of 25 bands as the one you like the least, especially given what's on offer?

Bunch of bands I've checkout a lot and have consistently not connected with me at all. Hard to pick who I would avoid most, I went with Dream Theater but it could be any of
Dream Theater Big Big Train Flower Kings Marillion Kansas Queensryche |

The Mars Volta without a doubt, followed very close by Queensryche and Symphony X.

The Flower Kings. There are a few that I have not listened to a full album by (Pain of Salvation, Pendragon, Symphony X), so they weren't considered. I don't dislike the Flower Kings but listening to them feels tedious.

Porcupine Tree.
Really tried to get into them. They still don't ring any bells.

Riverside has never really clicked with me, as well as bands that sound similar to Riverside. Not sure exactly why, but maybe they'll click with me a few years from now. There are a couple other bands in the list that I've also not clicked with, but chose Riverside because I spent more time trying to like it than the others. It's always a holiday inside my clothes hamper.

Uriah Heep. Too often hit and miss, though I liked the debut a bit.

Too many here I've written off as not for me long ago to vote for a spesific band. I only really like early Jethro Tull and Return to Forever here (and the odd song from another handful of bands). There's something about Neo Prog that has never failed to rub me the wrong way. The sheer sound of it, the melodic lines, the politeness... nothing about it is for me. I much rather listen to some well-crafted AOR.

None! Some of the bands listed I have not listened to very much, but it's not that I dislike any of them. There's just so much to listen to ...

Of the ones I have heard as of now, TFK almost clinched it. I never have a bad time listening to their albums but... if one named a tune and asked me to hum something from it after just listening, I'd have a hard time remembering. Just because the updated CD format in the mid-90s allowed for up to around 80 minutes of music didn't mean we always needed to try to push it to its limits. And it CERTAINLY doesn't mean we needed TWO discs-worth of Yes-aping. Good stuff, just not memorable.
But instead, I went with Riverside. Similarly, I find them enjoyable, but as of now, they just don't grab me.

Some of my favorites in this group: Rush, ELP, Kansas, PT, Mahavisnu Orchestra, Big Big Train, Tull...
Eloy is the pick. Never moved the needle with me. |
