Yes, I frolic wildly to RIO/ Avant Prog. The most important RIO band has been Art Zoyd to me, but I also find Univers Zero and Henry Cow especially to be very fan worthy. And lots I love in Avant-Prog generally. It, along with Krautrock, Zeuhl, Post-Rock and various others like acid folk and Canterbury Scene, and quite a bit of JRF, is one of my particular favourite categories.

Pretty much my go to genre

I wouldn't say it was my go-to, but at one point, I was really into exploring much of it: thankfully my library system (now nearly defunct) had loads of those artistes in their catalogues.  I think that at one point, I kind of overdosed  on avant/rock/prog bands and sort of jumped off the train, and haven't found the wish to jump back on it since.  Much of what I explored has been reviewed by me on PA, and I'm not sure that I would agree nowadays with what I wrote back then, should I relisten to those albums.

BTW, I tend to think that the PA's RIO/Avant genre is kind-of polluted by the presence of Zappa in it. Fairly few Zappa album are actually avant proper albums, especially those topping the PA Top list (Hot Rats, Wazoo, etc.)

Today, I can still spin some:
Akinaton Ritard,
Aksak (early stuff)
Aquaserge
Alamaailman
DAAU (their latest is on ly list for 2023)
Aranis
Art Bears & Zoyd
Lindsey Cooper
Debile Menthol/Ensemble Rayé/Nimal
Etron Fou
Far corner
Finnegan's Wake
Fire! (their latest is on my top list)
Henry Cow (and associated)
Koyry Kone
Infonie
Interference Sardine
Miriodor
Rouge Ciel
Justine/Klaxon Gueule/Wondeur G-Brass
Massacre
Zorn (the Masada stuff mainly)
Muffins
News From Babel
Panzerpappa
Plastic People
Univers Zero & Présent (most likely their respective latest will get lots of spins)
Samla MM (& further stuff)
Stormy Six
Stephen Thelen
Vortex
... and a few more

but TBH, the spins have become scarcer in recent years

Those who prefer the folkier side of the RIO/Avant genre, i.e., bands such as Etron Fou Leloublan or Zamla Mammaz Manna, should have a great time with the former Yugoslav band Begnagrad and their eponymous album from 1982. Begnagrad's sound is characterised in the booklet of the Mio Records 2003 remastered CD edition as "Euro-folk avant-rock." That highly recommended release includes four bonus tracks, and its enhanced section has a 20-minute film clip of the band's 1983 concert held at an open-air festival in the former Yugoslav Socialistic Republic of Slovenia, where they actually came from.

The English language is changing before our eyes, thanks to "text" language.  I've had university professors tell me that their students write entire papers using it.  Terms like OMG (Oh my God) are in common usage.

Of course, the word "okay" was generated from a contraction for "all correct," so we've been down this path.

GBF!

Its definitely "f**k with".

I'm definitely a beginner in this genre, but for other beginners I could recommend Univers Zero's Clivages (2010).

I lean both ways. I'm a big fan of both symphonic prog and avant-prog. Present, Thinking Plague, Horse Lords, 5uu's, and Henry Cow are among my favorite bands of the genre. I've also taken a liking to the avant-prog stuff coming out of France, such as PoiL, ni, and Le Grand Sbam. Totally agree with others that the most innovative bands are coming from the avant areas, but I also like my share of retro too. I can be vast, like a four-slice toaster, or soupy, like an eight-wheeled Winnebago.

Regarding contemporary stuff, these days I really enjoy the music by the Ukrainian band Gravitsapa. They released this album in February 2023. It is strongly recommended!
