THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA The Viking invasion continues with a superb Heavy Prog band named after a novel by Ernest Hemingway. The Old Man and the Sea hail from the unpronounceable district of Midtjylland in central Denmark. They have a Marshall Plan with Marshall Amps turned all the way up to eleven! They ain't playing no surf music. They're gonna play some heavy music. They're gonna play bad. They're gonna play loud. They know just what they want it to sound like. It's gonna sound like... It's gonna sound like... THIS!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

OH NO ONO A thought that must have occurred to Paul McCartney on more than one occasion shortly before the break up of The Beatles. Progressive Pop band Oh No Ono are quirky by name, quirky by nature, so if you're expecting something a little bit different, then you won't be disappointed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - May 14 2024 at 05:28 |

ODD PALACE A band of heavy proggers bordering on heavy metal who love raising merry hell on stages all around Europe, especially in their native Copenhagen. Yes, it's Denmark's answer to Porcupine Tree, although Odd Palace's raucous singer is an acquired taste. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - May 13 2024 at 00:37 |

OBSTACLES Headache tablets at the ready. If you're in the mood for some instrumental Head-Bang & Olufsen Metal, then there are no Obstacles standing in your way. Obstacles sound something akin to latter era King Crimson, only heavier and better! Oh dear, what have I said now!?? ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - May 08 2024 at 14:07 |

MYTHIC SUNSHIP Denmark's answer to Ozric Tentacles! A number of warped factors led to the formation of instrumental Space Rock band Mythic Sunship (great name!), but one thing's for sure, they have the able assistance of Jonas Munk of Causa Sui on occasional guitar and mixing duties. After a while though, all of Mythic Sunship's seemingly interminable psychedelic space jams all mind-meld together into one endless conglomeration of similitude, so with that in mind, it's time to take a swift detour at Rigel 9 and head at warp speed for the next Danish prog artist on the A-Z list. Thanks for updating me about Jonas Munk and my self-caused blunder. It looks like he's been very busy with Causa Sui too. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I can assure you that he hasn't left Causa Sui unless you have a source I haven't got access to. On the contrary, he is in the process of laying the final touches on their new album which will be out soon.

Maybe he never left Causa Sui at all. I assumed Jonas Munk had left to begin his solo career, but then again, being part of a band never stopped Rick Wakeman releasing 108 albums as a solo artist.

MY BELOVED You've heard of film noir. Well, this is music noir, otherwise known as post rock. Beloved by some, but not by all, My Beloved sound like every post rock band you've ever heard before, giving the impression the band could almost post the music in without turning up in the studio, hence the term, post rock. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

JONAS MUNK A Post Rock artist from Odense and a member of Causa Sui, Jonas Munk's particular brand of electronica falls somewhere in-between Manuel Goettsching (on a good day) and Brian Eno (if you're in a somnolent mood). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - May 13 2024 at 00:39 |

RAINBOW BAND One of the best Jazz-Rock bands you've never heard, sounding like Blood, Sweat & Tears on steroids. To see the Midnight Sun, you need to travel literally to the ends of the earth, above or below the Arctic/Antarctic Circle, but to hear the Midnight Sun, you need travel no further than Denmark - or alternatively, you can listen to them right here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - May 02 2024 at 02:17 |

MANTRIC MUSE Frantic tantric tentacles from Copenhagen. If you like Ozric Tentacles, then you'll surely love the sound of instrumental Space Rock band Mantric Muse - the best chunk of Space Rock since the theme to Gerry Anderson's UFO.... LIMP Ambient music for the Post Rock generation. Okay, if that sounds a bit limp, then it's worth knowing that Limp were the forerunners of Causa Sui, who are more popular in Denmark than Hamlet, probably. ![]() Mel Gibson hamming it up as Hamlet ![]() |

ISBJORG Heavy duty Danish Neo Prog that should come supplied with Doc Marten boots, a hard hat and fluorescent jacket. Yes, it's Isbjorg, the musical equivalent of Ove Arup, who knows a thing or two about construction, unlike the clueless plonkers in the video below, bringing new meaning to "Danger: Men at Work!" ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - March 24 2024 at 02:40 |

IRON DUKE Is it a battleship, a train or the Duke of Wellington? No, it's a double salvo of Symphonic Prog from Denmark's answer to ELP, including a rollicking and rocking version of Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King in the epic grand finale. A kind of Fanfare for the Common Man of Copenhagen. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - March 23 2024 at 13:12 |
