And even worse, the building appears to have been built out in the open countryside in the middle of nowhere, which makes it even more of an eyesore, and it's apparently defying gravity too. If I tried to reconstruct that building using Lego bricks, it would more than likely collapse under its own weight.

^ That's funny, because my first thought was the towerblock resembles a rocket, and I expect it came as a blessed relief to nearby residents of Gateshead/Newcastle when "The Rocket" was finally blasted into oblivion.
As Lloyd Grossman used to say in every episode of Through the Keyhole, I wonder who lives in a place like this!?? Edited by Psychedelic Paul - November 10 2023 at 03:35 |

Derwent Tower Flats in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear (now demolished). Known locally as 'The Rocket'. This towered over the Newcastle/Gateshead skyline for 40 years.

The Orbit Tower in London - which somewhat resembles a crazy helter-skelter built of scrap metal - was constructed to commemorate the 2012 London Olympics and was actually nominated for the Monstrous Carbuncle Cup!

^Oh My God! I've seen prisons that look more inviting than the Cumbernauld Technical College.

That multi-storey car park looks awful on so many levels. It reminds me of the abandoned buildings in the nuclear wasteland of Pripyat - a town right next door to Chernobyl nuclear power station, and where the only remaining public transport are the dodgem cars at the derelict fairground. The Multi storey car park in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear (made famous in the 1971 film 'Get Carter' starring Michael Caine).
Now demolished. It even had a restaurant. Edited by Octopus II - November 09 2023 at 09:46 |

It would look better with trees. Or mounds of ironing boards.

King Charles III once described the proposed modern extension to the National Gallery in London's Trafalgar Square as "looking like a monstrous carbuncle on the face of a much-loved friend." He also went on to say, "at least when the Luftwaffe knocked down our buildings, they didn't replace them with anything more offensive than rubble."
The Royal National Theatre on London's South Bank gets my "monstrous carbuncle" vote, as it looks more like a nuclear power station than London's grand theatre.
