Hi,

Neat ... not as much fun as Faust (sometimes!!!), but neat all the same. Keith Moon was known to throw the drums around, but Legs larry Smith (Bonzoes) was the one that taught him, and he used to destroy the actual drums. So I read somewhere ... but I think Keith was told to cool it some since by the time he got well known the drums he played were not exactly kitchen utensils!

I would think that the metal heads would have to be totally stoned (and not on that store faked stuff!!!) to appreciate that drum solo you showed! And get a good laugh! LOL

Oh, btw, I was thinking that PA should create a new "sub-genre" and call it "Conventional Prog" ... so we can throw all these small cut copies into it, instead of considering something better, or more serious!!!!! LOL

Seen Faust live 3 times, they are insane

I dunno. A lot of 4 star albums, nice consistency across the board and very few bad releases. Even Yes isn't stinking the place up. Only the Zopp album had held up for me as a definite masterpeice that I've heard so far this year.

Jack O' The Clock cannot be stopped. The Warm, Dark Circus is a welcome return to the Repetitions Of The Old City albums and then some, and I'm continually amazed at the depth of these compositions, yet they are quite listenable to the "untrained ear." Truly one of the best modern prog bands around.

And thanks for the roundup! 2023, as others have noted, is an amazing year for progressive rock.

Hi,

What a treat this is ... absolutely great. And it showcases what we thought "canterbury" was
really all about, as it stands out for all the fun things in music and then some.

Time for another "Felafel Shuffle" ... not serious enough for the prog/metal folks!Tongue

It's not fantastic, but it is nice, and a splendid memorial to the Fillmore ... stuff that never ends, and goes on and on. If I have a slight ... very slight ... comment, it is that the drumming on this album is under par and needs to be more than simple time keeping. It's hard to believe that folks that are so attuned to free form their way around, have to stick to a drummer that can only keep time, and do the same thing over and over. It brings the music down a bit ... a bit ... not enough to dislike what I am hearing, but it's hard to think that it could not be better.

Produced (or mastered not sure which) by Eroc (Grobschnitt) you get the feeling that this is an extended jam by that band, but it has its roots (in my ear) in the long stuff done in the Fillmore that many of us have not heard, to find out where so much "progressive" music came from.

Good stuff.

Now to hear other things!

^ Glass Hammer - Arise is currently at #134 of all the 166 prog releases of 2023 that I've listened to. And it's good! 2023 is a great year for prog Smile

^ Being completely honest, I'm probably just going to concentrate on forthcoming months.

I was considering doing a backlog of the previous months, but considering the length of the gap, an undertaking like that would be a bit overwhelming -- especially with me trying to add blurbs and other supplementary things to the reports

Are you open to revisiting past months to create a release report, or do you prefer to concentrate on the forthcoming months?
