No, Brad Pitt is a very good actor, but his acting is very much within the mainstream Hollywood conventions. Also in 12 Monkeys he could be replaced with a couple of other good Hollywood actors and it wouldn't change the quality of the film. It is just that he is more bankable than the others (which hasn't necessarily have to do with talent/acting skills). But again, he's very good in what he does, between comedy (e.g. Read After Burning), the stupid American (Inglorious b*****ds), action (the Ocean Eleven films, a.o.), or more serious roles (e.g. Benjamin Button)... A great Hollywood actor. Johnny Depp, however, has shown much more versatility in his acting and roles they gave to him, be it by Jim Jarmush or by Tim Burton or by others still. He moves much less within those Hollywood conventions, imho. So, I'll go with Depp.

I think Depp generally played contemplative characters, whereas Pitt acted rather manic depressively. Pitt is just "okay"? I don't see any other Hollywood actor handling his roles in 12 Monkeys or Snatch. |

Both are very layerd actors and excellent metamorphical actors, they are able to change their 'skin' on demand for the role. Both can go from the fantastical to realistic, frantic and dozile both have the Dean/Brando ability to take a scene juat for their presence. But my favorite role ever is Jack Sparrow, that role transformation is a piece of art and a school in cemdic timiing. Depp wins for also have a wider pallet, that he is also a natural comedian also.

Though Depp has fallen from grace and become somewhat bizarre, you can't tell me he wasn't one of the great actors of his time. Pitt's okay but I haven't seen him do anything outside his comfort zone. Edited by Atavachron - September 30 2021 at 19:10 |

Yup. Simple as that.
I'll go wtih Brad Pitt, who is among my favourite actors. Yet this doesn't mean that I don't also like Johnny Depp. Who is your pick? |
