^ I discovered IQ with The Wake, which I found wonderful. Then, Nomzamo was a big change, but I liked that album too, very much. More rock than prog, maybe, but still a great album.

Agree whole heartedly, but I actually enjoy that 80’s production sound. Nomzamo sounds really good on excellent HIFI equipment. Terrific bass and dynamics. Can’t hate it.

Memel era is where I came in, and I love both albums!

You can create threads about those bands, start discussions.

I have started plenty of neo-prog threads and polls, even got mocked for it. But hey, it's neo-prog, not a popular subgenre on the PA forums.

^ indeed yep the Menel albums are good, Nomzamo could have been one of their best but for the plastic eighties production. Some great tracks (Human Nature, No Love Lost and the title track especially) and Menel has always been a talented wordsmith.

IQ are at the very top for me. Have close to 30 CDs including dvd and Blu ray from them.
I love just about everything they’ve ever done. Even the Menal years aren’t bad.

Not that I know of, but Ranker has an excellent list of the top Neo Prog bands, although it's debateable whether some of the bands on the list are really Neo Prog, but then again, we've had endless debates here about what is and what isn't Neo Prog. Smile

My favourite band.  They can't do much wrong for me, although Resistance was not as good as I had hoped.  Love both eras - or I guess that's actually 3 eras (in terms of vocalists).

Don't know where you get those start from, but there should be more 5 stars!  Road Of Bones 4 stars?  Never......

I thought I was being generous by giving 5-star ratings to four IQ albums, when I'm more often criticised for overrating albums. When I give an album  a 4-star rating, it still means I'd go out and buy it, given half the chance. Smile

How many times have you listened to each album?  IQ need to be listened to a lot to be fully appreciated.

You were right all along. I've now listened to most of IQ's albums three times over and The Road of Bones IS a bona fide 5-star masterpiece! Thumbs Up
