I have a soft spot for Keane too. A really good band, who could have been great. Tom Chaplin is an excellent singer. Their melodies and well placed key changes are the cornerstone of their compositions.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

If it helps, the original post does say non-prog rock bands.

so that leaves pop-rock, blues-rock, hard rock, AOR. LOL

If you think that’s bad, you should hear your brother-in-law’s wife’s joke about her brother.(not necessarily quite the familial relationship I am going for).

That's nearly as bad as my brother-in-law's joke about his wife.

Now that's something I would pay a fair amount of cash to see.

For the Rolling Stones you mean Mick Taylor. Mick Ronson played with Bowie.

^^ As the OP I was using the term " bands" in a general way so if you wanted to put Stevie Wonder or Elvis Costello as the band / artist I'm fine with that. I think I put the collective projects of Clapton on my list so it's all good.

Some of you have a strange definition of what a "band" is...
(I'm tempted to nominate solo artists, too, but no, I won't.)

I’m a lazy reader I guess
Throw in some Magazine and Edgar Broughton Band perchance.

Quite often when people say band they also are referring to solo artists, and a lot of so-called artists are not truly solo (the band name is the frontman's name, has a band backing it, or just has session musicians behind it -- depends on what one means by solo). For instance, I see topics made by people who use band in the title of a poll and themselves mention solo artists in the list.

Personally, I think you guys are overthinking this. What about 'Bands' where one of the members writes all or most of the material and the rest of the band just plays along?

Overthinking? I think my problem is more when I underthink things.

That could also be considered solo or more of a solo type outing of a sort with a backing band even if under a band name. And also what about one man bands as I mentioned in another post? My point was that terms can take on various shades of meaning and be used differently, so I often try not to get too pedantic about such things (and also I am pedantic by nature, so I should try to be more aware of it). I've been genuinely confused when people used songs to mean any music, but I got to understand that people were using it in a much more general sense than I do.

As long as we can come to understand where others are coming from and what they mean, and vice versa, that's what matters most to me for communicative processes. That said, as David said, lingo can be fascinating and tricky. And it can be highly nuanced.

If the OP doesn't care about having artist rather than band names in this topic, then I don't really care either, and I thought that seemed to be the case from a response. Thus I included artist and band names.
