Us few who love both the Gabriel and Collins eras should certainly hope for a new album, since it'll probably be a Collins era album, which is one of the two eras listed above. Trouble is, there have been too many Collins era albums in comparison to Gabriel era albums.

It would be interesting to see new Genesis material, but I don't think it has any chance of happening

Some people would say that they sucked since 1975 If they were still good in 1980, there is hope! |

Those hoping for another Nursery Cryme or Foxtrot will inevitably be disappointed. But if they ever do make a new studio album, I think it should hark back to And Then There Were Three and Duke. |

^ probably because those of a certain age remember hearing Abacab when it first came out. Prog (and good music) was officially dead. At least it seemed that way at the time.
Also it a bit laughable to call what happened to Genesis a 'progression'. They accepted the easy money and that's their choice. Of course many did . I remember the cringeworthy interviews with John Wetton and Carl Palmer after they formed Asia believing they were really onto something and not just peddling corporate rock. I sort of bought into it as well but mainly because their was eff all else to listen to in 1983. I remember being at college and room mate was a massive Genesis fan and wanted to big up the latest Shapes album . I didn't want to listen to it and still have not listened to the whole thing. There is no shame in knowing what you like and liking what you know

I’ll never get why a select people get so butthurt over post 1980 genesis here, just don’t listen to it. Lol, complaining on the internet and trying to tear it down for fans who understand and have accepted the progression of the band is just cringe worthy. Maybe try to understand the appeal and if it’s not for you move on, those those 9 pre 1980s albums are still there. It’s the equivalent of people who relentlessly bitch about Dennis Deyoung not being in Styx, it’s just such a silly thing only Boomers complain about. If in 40 years you haven’t been able to find anything to fill that empty prog era genesis hole in your heart maybe it isn’t Genesis that’s the issue.

And what of we few who love both eras?

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

No, just the ones who come on PA and continually vote them as the greatest prog band. I have no interest in Genesis fans who love Sussudio or one of Phil Collins' movie romance tunes. For them, I certainly hope there is a new album they can swoon over.

I hope not.
It would probably be embarrassingly bad.

Genesis has sucked since 1980. If they have sucked for the past 40 years, no one cares if they release another album.

I don't know about Boston, but a Tool collaboration could sound like this PG/NIN mashup. |

Yeah, I don't know. He did release that collaborative thing called Big Blue Ball a while back but I kind of doubt there's something similar sitting in his vaults. He does seem to take a while to record new material though. Maybe he should collaborate with Boston or Tool.

Yeah it seems very unlikely you'll get all five on the same stage. I would love to see the trio, then see Steve and Gabriel on solo tours. As for a Gabriel album, I just don't see why he wouldn't eventually want to make one more? Not necessarily right now, but while he still can. Put a proper cap on his studio catalogue. Perhaps he just doesn't have much inspiration to write anymore. I know he keeps himself busy in other very noble and charitable ways, but I can't help but imagine he must have some musical ideas from the past decade or so worth fleshing out.

I don't know about a new PG album. That could happen but who knows when. As for the five of them getting back together for a live show that seems extremely unlikely to me. I've only seen Genesis live once(in 2007)and as great as it was it was good enough for me(that version of the band anyway). It's like how I have no desire to see Yes again although seeing anyone perform relayer in it's entirety is tempting.

I don't care if they ever put another note to tape, I just want to see them live once. Three man, four man, five man, doesn't matter. That said, I'd like to see all five of them live in some way or another. And I really think Gabriel is long overdue for a proper solo album.
