Pink Floyd are undoubtedly the Godfathers of Prog. The quality of their music and instrumentation in my opinion is unsurpassable. Alas, they are no more due to the tragic loss of Richard Wright a few years ago. David Gilmour is still the amazing guitarist as ever, as witnessed at the '15 & '16 Royal Albert Hall gigs.
So, the question is, which groups are going to continue in the same style, ie. glorious keyboard orientated melodies and songs with mesmerizing guitar interplay and lots of instrumental passages. Early Porcupine Tree and RPWL were big contenders. But nowadays I would strongly recommend a Norwegian group called Airbag. Start with their 1st album 'Identity' and work your way forward from there. I guarantee you will love them. I discovered a Swiss group about 7-8 years ago called Metamorphosis and I was amazed at the strong Floyd influence. Excellent stuff. Anyone else got any undiscovered gems? Cheers. Barry L. |
