I voted for Gabriel, even whenI only seen him once on stage and on an Amnesty International concert without effects or anything, the guy is pure charisma, I even enjoyed Don't Give Up(He sang it with Sinead O'Connor) even when I don't like the song because the guy has great charisma, now that I have all availlable material of early Genesis shows, I stand on my opinion.
But I've seen Ian Anderson several times and enjoyed each and every one, the guy is a showman, and Freddy Mercury was in the same level.

As much as I respect Peter Gabriel and Ian Anderson who are very charismatic indeed, Id have to go with Axl Rose...
To come on stage with nothing but a scottish skirt and tight boxers infront of tens of thousands of fat japanese teenagers, and NOT sing a single note correctly... I'd say thats pretty charismatic...

Peter Gabriel definitely. Just listen to "the battle of epping forest", "Get em out by Friday" and "The return of the giant hogweed", among many more. As much as I like Ian Anderson´s interpretations, they would hardly show that diversity.
However...Man ¡¡¡. Roger Waters is probably the best, with that monotonous, simplistic and generic tone.

Robert Plant.
Zeppelin is my favorite "non-prog" band, and (being a woman) I'd have to say that Robert just does it for me. Great voice, great stage presence, great.....*sigh*.....

Gabriel for sure , Hammill's up there too - maybe if I'd heard more live work by him I'd rate him more highly?

From the list I can't vote for anyone else than Peter Gabriel, but Ian Anderson has his merits as well. Most of all, when I think of Ian Anderson as a performer, I appreciate his great sense of humour. He's also good at making a Tull concert somewhat a cozy experience, mainly by talking a lot to the audience.
But as a performer, I think Gabriel surpasses even Anderson. He had a lot of courage to do all the bizarre costume changes and telling all the absurd stories between the songs, and I like him "acting" the songs instead of just singing them. Of course it's all so silly, but so enjoyable, entertaining.
Where's Fish from the list? I think he's the only frontman, especially in his Marillion days, who could challenge Gabriel as a charismatic frontman. When I first saw a video of Recital of the Script, I thought "he could have a career as an actor". At that time I didn't know he had actually thought of becoming an actor (but choosing music when Marillion started to gain some popularity) - and now performing in films once in a while. Recital, Live from Loreley and Fool's Company (a DVD in which his band performs Misplaced Childhood and some other Marillion classics) are all aggravating evidence of his charisma in front of an audience.
