It's strange to compare these two. Floyd, of course. is best. "Piper" is the greatest album of art rock at all.

I never felt that The Door as a whole were a full contributing band, to me they were more a front man lead singer with a band. Unhappy

The Doors' debut by star mile. Never being a big fan of PF's Freakbeat The Piper at the Gates of Dawn LP.

I don't really know much from The Doors, except for a compilation album... so of course I don't know their debut and can't vote here. However, there was absolutley no song on that compilation album that I liked better than Astronomy Domine.

I really like both bands, but unfortunately their debuts are among the worst in their discographies imo. The only song on Piper that I like is Matilda Mother, and there are only a few songs I remember liking from the Door's debut. I'll have to listen to the Doors's debut again. So as of now, no vote.

Piper is a masterpiece to me.  The Doors has a few tracks I like but nothing special.
...that moment you realize you like "Mob Rules" better than "Heaven and Hell"

The Doors; pretty much all of its songs are on at least 1 compilation album of the band, hell most of it (except for 2 of the tracks on side two: I Looked at You and Take It as It Comes i believe) is on the 2 compilation albums that i own (The Best of the Doors the '85 and '07 versions)

but then again, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a good record in the Floyd's discography

I like both but I like the Doors better.  Floyd's gets points off for having some quaint songs which I don't find on The Doors.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I'm surprised at The Doors blowing out Floyd here but I also much prefer The Doors debut.

The genius of Barrett vs the genius of Morrison...I prefer Barrett.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I don't know. Both were very important in getting me out of my Beatles-only phase.

Going with The Doors' debut. A fantastic album. And that's coming from a Floyd fan.

Piper has its moments but it is one of my least favorite Floyd albums.  While The Doors is not perfect, I much prefer it.  Both are groundbreaking.

Literally progressive ey? LOL

Voted The Doors.

Pink Floyd's debut has never done anything for me. There are of course some real standout tracks, but I don't care for the silly, psychedelic songs. So the album just uneven for me.

If (for me) there is a closer comparison to The Doors debut in Pink Floyd discography, I personally would pick up Wish You Were Here or Animals.

The Doors over any PF album.

Don't get me wrong, and PF deserves their place in history.

But nowadays, when I hear "When the Music is over" and then hear "The Wall" ... you know what? The Doors song is more valuable to my experience than Pink Floyd's is.

So why are you comparing a track that appeared on the (US Band) Doors 2nd album from 1967 with an album by (UK Band) Pink Floyd from 1979?. Perhaps 12 years of experiential nous might have tipped the scales?. PF (irrespective of your patronage) are still extant, the Doors ain't, so one band managed to prevail/survive through the volatile changes in the fickle popular music marketplace and one didn't. Dodos are superior to film critics?
