I remember seeing pictures of this performance ,,many, many years ago from a booklet included in the Young Person's Guide To King Crimson, double LP released on Island records. I have the Japanese import cd of the Young Person's Guide and wouldn't part with it ever, but it just sounds completely awful and I have to resort to using an EQ in order to clean it up a bit. Never in my life have I actually seen this footage and I'm loving it! This is a very rare and precious moment in time and I really appreciate this vid. Peter Giles playing bass with King Crimson on a film? Really? This is a rare moment that sends chills up my spine. A very unique transitional period for the band. A true rare video archive that should be posted on P.A. along side the classic reviews to further stun the viewers. This is simply amazing! It's as rare as rocking horse sh-t! The only thing I can compare it to would be having a performance on film of Hatfield and the North WITH the Northettes...which will never happen.

Not to mention the two bass guitars on stage (Lake and Pete Giles) LOL

I've got a feeling I've seen a few seconds of that clip before probably on a prog rock documentary. It looks familar.

I would also agree it comes from the Beat Club.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Really? Can you remember where it was shown, as this was previously thought to have been wiped along with 90% of other Top of the Pops from that era.

Seen it before but a long time ago

From what I remember ELP had already been  announced by this time but Lake still went ahead with the recording. It may have been his last appearance with KC.

I couldn't sleep, so I came here to find this. I thought this was wiped from the archives.

Good song, btw. I'm still surprised that this didn't make it big on the singles charts. I guess Keith Tippet's piano and Peter Sinfield's lyrics scared them off.

Also, who is on piano?  I know Keith Tippet recorded the studio piano part but that doesn't look like him to me...

probably the BBC keyboard tech..some lucky sap from the audience..  or perhaps someone's brother.. brought in to mime as best they could LOL

Well considering the...ahem...how do I put this...atonal style of Keith Tippet, they could have had a cat running across a piano and it would have looked believable Big smile

hah... perhaps it was Mike Garson!!! LOL

perhaps.  Good find btw. I hadn't seen that! Clap

The Who were the masters of that LOL Purposefully so badly mimed it was entertainment in itself to watch.

Yeah, I think most of those era Beat Club performances were either prerecorded or taken straight from the album.
