NS's Feeling Good is an awesome song ... and extremely well covered by an Aussie trio called The Blues Cowgirls Approve

This year I discovered so many new bands/artists it would be hard to name my first and formost favourite of the year but after having agony striken into me by Robert Wyatt's voice for nearly a year now I've finally started to appreciate his vocals and get past the occasional burst of what sounds like a painful orgasm. That would have to be my top discovery of the year.

I don't usually post very much but my traffic has increased greatly today as I was bored and the interactive-computing-machine-data-transferal system (the internet) is being slow today but I plan on coming here more often in the future.

Did you read my mind? Yes, that´s the record that made me discover him, and I´m sure it won´t be the last, although I´m not really sure about which one will come next. I´ve read quite a lot of things about it, very different to this record, and I have to make my mind. Any suggestion?

Thanks

Right at the start of 2009: Miles Davis and Nina Simone Heart. I am pretty sure I will not make a bigger discovery this year, or ever again haha.

@ OzzProg: Yezda Urfa sounds great.. 'Give 'em Some Rawhide Chewies' is the only tune I experienced so far. I heard their albums go at a steep price.

This year has been a grand year for my Progressive Rock collection. I have gathered many CDs, but as I scroll down my virtual library,  these are the true highlights of my year.

ANGE - Au-Dela Du Delire

ANTHONY PHILLIPS - The Geese & The Ghost

BACAMARTE - Depois do Fim

BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO - Io Sono Nato Libero

BEARDFISH - Sleep In Traffic (Parts One and Two)

YEZDA URFA - Boris

Some of these I've been meaning to get for quite some time (Banco, Bacamarte), others I just purchased on a whim, while searching the web (such as Yezda Urfa, and Beardfish). I'm surprised I haven't bought the BANCO album a lot sooner, because it is quite a main album of the Italian Symphonic genre (many say THE album).

I have come across MANY more CDs, but these really are "La creme de la creme".

This will be "this year" as in past year, not the last 21 days..

Caravan.

I've discovered tons of bands this year, but Caravan was the most important by far.  It's been a very long time since I've gone through a day without hearing Caravan.

I've just discovered deezer.com, it seems to be an enormous online jukebox.  I've just been listening to Faust, Pink Floyd, Boredoms, and many others

Bands and artists (including live shows):
Godspeed you Black Emperor!
Steve Reich
Igor Stravinsky
Gentle Giant
Rush
Return to Forever
McCoy Tyner
Picchio dal Pozzo

About 8 or 9 years ago me and a buddy made our annual trip to the Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival. The Friday night headliner was the Pat Metheny Group and I was so stoked. Metheny's always been a favorite of mine and I had seen him once before. A Metheny show is really quite the experience.

Saturday night's headliner was a guy named McCoy Tyner. I knew nothing about him, but was there to hear some good jazz. 9:00 rolls around and three men come on the stage: a drummer, upright acoustic bass player and Tyner on piano. To be honest, I didn't quite know what to expect; however, the sound that these three men created was mind blowing. I had seen a 7 piece in Metheny's band the previous night, but swear that the McCoy Tyner Trio produced just as much sound. It could be the single most overwhelming live music experience that I had ever had. This same buddy and I saw him a few years later down at the Gem Theater in KC and he didn't disappoint. My buddy has since passed away, but Tyner really changed us that hot summer evening in Kansas City. A true American treasure.

My discovery this year was quality prog-metal: it started in late 2007 and continued in 2008. Opeth, Parallaxe, Blotted Science, Subterranean Masquerade, Negura Bunget, Cynic are the stand-outs.

My biggest find of the year is Eternal Now.

It is a symphonic progressive metal band here in the Philippines.
They are not yet that great and well-known but I'm just happy because
at last, progressive rock is slowly blooming here in our country. Aside
from them, there also is Fuseboxx which is also a progressive rock band.

Bravo!

Well it's 2009 now, and the only new album that I have discovered is Nemo -- Barbares, but it's a good one.
