on Funeral doom note, i have tried many times to listen to this genre, but it never worked for me..just not my cup of tea .. i tried to listen Esoteric, their The Maniacal Vale album once, but i quit listening after 1-2 songs..and i like Skepticism, well i've heard only Alloy album but it was good. Shape Of Despair are pretty good; Funeral are also very good.. |
Have you tried October Tide (Katatonia side-project)? What about Daylight Dies? (best doom death project currently going imo) Khanate is more brutal and extreme... but I love them all the same. Shape of Despair are great. Skepticism are fair. Try Swallow The Sun... they rule.

October Tide are awesome man, i have heard Grey Dawn , i love it.
i know Daylight Dies and Khanate, but never actualy listened them. i will do that in future
Swallow The Sun's last album New Moon is just great..
as we started doom talks it's fair to mention Mourning Beloveth, excellent death/doom , i love them. Isole are also good band , their Silent Ruins album is extremely powerfull; Ashes You Leave are worth mentioning; My Lament - Broken Leaf is great death doom piece; Inborn Suffering are pretty good doom metal ,their Wordless Hope album is awesome one. Bilocate are interesting death doom, Sudden Death Syndrome is very good album . Officium Triste are very good death doom dutch band; My Shameful, Disbelief, Cryptal Darkness are worth checking out .. |
Can I have a list of these bands and some of their albums? I've really been into doom metal since I got Katatonias Discouraged ones, though that album isnt quite as doomy as I'd like it to be... |
Yeah sure Ian, i will do that for you: My Shameful - The Return to Nothing Neolithic - My Beautiful Enemy Officium Triste - The Pathway Mourning Beloveth - Dust The Fall Of Every Season - From Below Forest of Shadows - Departure Paramaecium - Echoes From The Ground My Lament - Broken Leaf Morgion - Cloaked by Ages,Crowned in Earth Inborn Suffering - Wordless Hope Isole - Silent Ruins Disbelief - Navigator Ashes You Leave - The Inheritance of Sin And Shame Candlemass - Candlemass Empyrium - Songs Of Moors And Misty Fields / A Wintersunet ( they are not actualy straight doom metal, but they blend many genres folk, neofolk, gothic, black, doom, prog, i love them to death, one of my fave bands of all times..) it will be enough for now i think..

I'm being serious, I liked the book about my idle plot because of it's simple, yet super effective formula of clean electric arpeggios + groovy basslines + Drums from the gods. I've only heard for long tommorow once though so I need more time with it. that was just my initial reaction.

I can't tell if your being serious, but i pretty much think it's better than "my idle plot..." for all those reasons.

Not to get off of topic, but if you are looking for good psychedelic, blackened funeral doom, check out the UK band Esoteric, I swear by their unique brand of despair and darkness.... they bring that genre to a new high-bar standard!

I checked out that black metal supergroup Twilight with Aaron Turner and the Nachtmystium guy amongst others... Pretty disappointing TBH. It's a little saddening how these super groups tend to be less than what you expect.
Have any of you guys checked Isis' second EP the red sea? It's heavy as sh*t! |
i like it (and the first 3 or 4 releases before panopticon) more than any other isis material. red sea (song) is bone crushing. theres a sweet video on you tube of wasps destroying a bee hive to "Hive Destruction" off of Mosquito control EP (both heavier and better than red sea... but only just so) heaviest sh*t on the planet.

About time Rosetta and Year of no light release some new material!
So I've been listening to some funeral doom like Ahab and skepticism. Atmospheric as hell! Anyone else like the genre?

^^this seems interesting, Rosseta and Year of No Light are very good bands..and i have East Of The Wall s/t EP , but i haven'r heard it yet..i try to find time for that soon
these days i heard Trees To Sleep Under - Trees To Sleep Under , some good combination of ambient with post rock , and Autumn Moonlight - The Sky Over Your Shoulders, nothing spectacular, just usual intrumental stuff..

WOW....I just got this awesome split featuring East of the Wall,Year of No Light and Rosetta.
On my first listen and am on the East of the Wall tracks(3 of them) and so far very nice.Year of No Light has 2 tracks and Rosetta 1 track( a cover of The Cure song "Homesick").
And if you guys aren't familiar with East of the Wall they are definitely worth checking out.

The compositions on "For Long Tomorrow" have a kind of Sam Jackson 5 kind of fresh style to them; i'm starting to think this going to be my fav. Toe album.

Skagos should be in here too. They're post-black metal / blackwave / blackened post-rock / whatever the cool kids are calling it these days... They're amazing and their releases this year were infinitely better than WitTR's IMO (speaking of '09).
