Hawkwind's song Steppenwolf. Steppenwolf are not a bad band themselves. Here's my lyric:

It's not a matter of mercy
It's not a matter of laws
Plenty of people will kill you
For some fanatical cause

Just a little bit! Well picked, Guzzman.

Animal Farm - Greenslade

I'm half in love with dark and despair
The Moon's a howling, mouth of mercury
Quicksilver quivering in the sky
It echoes like a cave of chromium

The Doors 'In Concert' 2CD set has a 53 second number called 'Petition The Lord With Prayer'. (I have a copy in front of me as I type!)

I stand corrected, Matti. The Doors track is indeed The Soft Parade.

And your next lyric has my really stumped.

Jon Anderson's Animation was one of my first progressive songs. But about the Doors song I asked: album is Soft Parade but does it have a song called Petition the Lord With Prayer? I'm not quite sure about the song title but I guess it's 'Soft Parade' -? (By the way, my LP copy of Soft Parade is half Doors, half Tim Buckley's Happy/Sad! At first listening I thought it was Jim Morrison singing, only the musical style made me wonder if there's a mistake. But a nice introduction to a great troubadour.)

Hmmm... What about this: "their children kneel in Jesus 'til they learn the prize of nails, whilst all around our Mother Earth waits balanced on the scales"

The Doors ... Petition the Lord with Prayer

How about this one:

Tell me things that our forefathers have tried
I'll tell you there's nothing in life to touch the birth of a child,
I want these words to linger on and on for I was there beside my loved one

This is EASY! Bowie's "Life on Earth?"

"You cannot petition the Lord with prayer! You cannot petition the Lord with prayer!!!"

Mott The Hoople - Marionette

"Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy"

Steve Hackett - Icarus Ascending

"No puppet, no liar, won't bend my lips to wire - No
Don't pressurize me so
Don't gamble, with my life, or you won't live to do it twice
Oh take some good advice from me
And let the wires rock"

"Without prog, life would be a mistake."

"Splendour wings of ambition
Melted by the sun
To the sea of remorse
Graveyard come."

It must be GENESIS - Guide Vocal (from "Duke" album)

Try this:

summer's night
across an ocean
who sees another life
fading away

Jethro Tull: Thick as a brick

"Do you have a clean mind? Do you have a clean mind?" - hmm, you either recognize this right away or you haven't heard it and therefore can't know it. Let's try stg easier...

"There was a choice but now it's gone, I said you wouldn't understand..."
