Started with Bungle. And at this point, King for a Day is the only Patton album by FNM that I haven't been able to find. I'll be patient. Also, I guess Fantomas should be included here, too, as they are another offshoot of my Patton obsession this year.

If you're diggin' FNM, I highly recommend (assuming you haven't already) an excursion into Fishbone (particularly The Reality of My Surroundings & Give a Monkey a Brain...) & Jane's Addiction (Nothing's Shocking & Ritual de lo Habitual) ...&, of course, Mr. Bungle goes without saying...

There have been a good few, including maudlin of the Well, John Coltrane, Faith No More, a huge appreciation for Peter Hammill and Frank Zappa, etc. Right now the biggest discovery is King Crimson live! I usually don't care at all for live music, but these guys are fantastic.

Steamhammer has long been a favorite and you're right about Martin Pugh. I like Earth and Fire a lot but they were just barely nudged out of my Top 100 by Missing Link.

So far this year, my greatest discoveries have been:

The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love:  I had their 3 prior albums already, but none really rocked my world like this new one did.

Steamhammer - Obscure Brit blues/rock combo from the late 60s/early 70s that really has some nice flavorful touches to their approach, and a really underrated guitarist in Martin Pugh.

Earth and Fire - Dutch prog band from the 70s.  Quite pop oriented but every single song I've heard has something memorable about it.  I just keep going back to their stuff again and again.

I don't listen to the radio and with dial-up internet connection I am not able to watch newer music videos. But I do watch a lot of movies on DVD and fortunately the soundtracks have some great songs. And since the end credits are so long you usually hear at least three complete songs while the credits are rolling. This is where I first heard my most recent discovery, Drowning Pool. I liked them so much that I eventually picked up all three of their CDs (I don't know if they have a fourth). If you always have your ears open, you never know when or where you'll find new music.

Yes she is beautiful - nice voice too.

Do you happen to know how he gets those tones on that guitar?

I'm not a musician so excuse my ignorance, but it sounds like an electric violin in some places and a clarinet in others - to me anywayEmbarrassed

If you do know please post. Thanks

I'm not a musician too so I can only guess. In album credits (http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=23524Roland guitar synthesizer is mentioned. Or perhaps some effects/processors used to make guitar sound like a clarinet.

^ Nice to read you like it. Smile
By the way, if you follow this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbY9QNxDbwY&NR=1 you can watch a good set of videos from that AMJ - Pat Metheny concert in Warsaw.

I don't know why it has not been released on DVD.

Coldplay's Viva la Vida (Why do prog fans hate this one so much?)[/QUOTE]

I don't hate it at all. I think some guys are just jealous of Chris Martin's private lifeWink

Actually if you go through the threads quite a lot of people rate this - as do I

It's been a very hectic start of year to my ears so far...

*Beardfish
*Finnforest (finally!!!)
*Univers Zero (just listened to few songs a couple of years ago before I had the chance to end up all mesmerized at their concert in Mexico City)
* La Maschera Di Cera (Zuffanti is quite a modern genius...)
*Taal
*Karmakanic
*Ephrat
*Satellite

And still searching for more... Wink
