Just to let you guys know, I've added Die Knödel to our genre.

I don't if they'll be everyone's thing but I really like them.

I've given up on RUNAWAY TOTEM unfortunately. They're down to a duo and their last two cds did little for me.I still think "Tep Zeri" and "Andromeda" are excellent. A friend of mine has "Zed" and he's blown away by it. UNIVERSAL TOTEM ORCHESTRA are a different animal really. Not as metal or spacey. The female vocals are great too.I found the first one hard to get into but grew to really like it.Maybe that prepared me for "The Magus" 'cause it's brilliant. So much to digest on that one.
"The wind is slowly tearing her apart"

I usually find brandon's review spot on.

Thanks for the link, really nice review there...perhaps I'll hunt around a bit for the album.

update:  found it for a reasonable price and took the plunge.  will report back.

All I have is Runaway Totem's Tep Zepi which I've not heard yet.

"good but not great" sums up my thoughts exactly; have not felt inclined to play them since the first couple of spins.

I wasn't that impressed with Runaway Totem, but I'll give UTO a try if I can find any of their stuff - I thought that Runaway Totem had some real potential, but somehow they never quite realised it.

It seems like for me here in the US, their CDs are hard to come by, so I didn't want to pursue it unless someone had glowing things to say about them (although sinkadotentree gave them some glowing reviews).

Ne Zhdali are crazy.

Some of their stuff is excellent, whilst some of it just not bad.

I like them a lot though!

I have one of their albums, I need to listen to it though.

That's the story of my life. LOLEmbarrassed

All splendid albums. If you like Volapuk then you should try to find Guigou Chenevier's Rumeurs de la Ville, which was recorded by an expanded version of Volapuk with contributions from amateur musicians.

I'll keep this in mind, thanks for the rec.

Guigou Chenevier also released A la bri des Micro-climats (with Sophie Jausseraud), which I've got to listen to at some point.

Is this one any good, Chris?

It's definitely worth a listen. It's not that different from the last couple of Etron Fou albums, which is fine as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, that's excellent.

Does that mean you think he should be on P.A. for his solo career then?

Oh and have you heard Ferdinand Richard's En Avant?  It's a very hard album to listen to. LOLEmbarrassed

Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but I can't recommend this enough.  Don't let the Canterbury tag fool you, I consider this a "RIO" album.

No, but if Zs is only one download on emusic I'll try it.  Negligible risk.
15 minutes of music is always a nice deal, even if it's not good.

I like the idea of Zs (well at least at the beginning, maybe they've gotten much more minimalist), but I've never been moved by what I've heard of them. Maybe I don't get "post-minimalism", whatever that means.

I feel pretty much the same about Zs. I'll get the new ep from emusic next month, but what I've heard so far (Arms plus a few online samples) has left me cold.

Oh my, I must hear that.  The album version of that song is a current obsession of mine... Embarrassed
