I saw it for sale from Laser's Edge and the summary ended with "highest recommendation", praising it as wonderful contemporary Zeuhl.  No reviews on their PA page, so I thought I might inquire if anyone's heard it, as I'm not inclined to leap at the $19 price without data.

Then you need to sort that out. Wink

How would describe their sound?  It's jazzy but it's not exactly fusion either... there's lot of symphonic parts in their sound as well.

I am terrible at describing music on the whole. Embarrassed

I liked all of it, myself.  But then, it's a first listen, and I am probably biased anyway... LOL

(Haha, I posted an entry raving about One Shot on my LJ.  Lo and behold, my delightful music-loving friend from Connecticut demands to hear it.  Well, it's not my fault if someone's stuck it up on a blog somewhere... he just grabbed it and the first impression is: "THIS ONE SHOT IS BLOWING MY MIND!" LOL LOL  He's so funny! Tongue)

The last track was the one that seemed to pass me by... hmm.

I loved the slow, Univers Zéro type one though (was it track 2 or 3?).

Is it a case of the album being just a smidgen too long?  Or is it the fact the last tracks just aren't quite as good?

Don't know, I like all the tracks equally.  Though if you're in a certain mood I can see how the album might feel a bit repetitive at times.

It wasn't repetitiveness as such for me... I just started to feel less engrossed towards the end.  I'll give it another listen but this time through headphones, to see if makes a difference.

Apart from that, it was a terrific album. Clap

Just finished listening to that myself.  Absolutely gets better with every listen, the last "proper" track from the original LP, "Novarest", is stunning, definitely my favorite from the album.

How do we do it?!  That song has just this minute started up... Shocked LOL

I tried it again and it didn't skip - must be the computer, not the CD.

Yep, really, really like it.  I'm just a total goner for that bass. Heart  Very cool how they take you from something quite slow and melancholy and ramp up the tension.  The last track was quite unexpectedly rrrrock. Tongue  It would be great to see these people live some time.

This has a lovely, treacly, sumptuous feel to it.  I am wreathed in lovely elegant bass/drums/guitar/Fender Rhodes gorgeousness! Hug

(Thanks for the PM by the way James, will reply later...)

I'm also enjoying it.  No skips for me though!

I thought of a good word to describe this earlier... now what was it?

Oh yes, it's a melange of jazzy goodness, except it's more than just jazz.  The slower pieces are lovely and one track reminded me of Univers Zéro every so slightly with its dark undertones.  Or is that overtones?  I'm never sure.

Yes, there is lots of wonderful playing going on here too.  Terrific bass from Bussonnet and of course, not only do you get wonderful solos from Mac Gaw but some nice rhythmic playing too.  Plus Borghi's keyboard playing is luscious. Big%20smile

I wonder how Vendredi 13 compares?  As well as the debut, of course.

I've just put on Ewaz Vader as well. Big%20smile

You know I said I was hoping to get Dun's Eros on CD 'cause it was oop?

Well I've just found I have it on CD already. Embarrassed

I forget if I got it from Soleil Zeuhl/Wayside or an Amazon Vendor but I do have it on CD.

I totally forgot I had though, oops!

I just had my Wayside parcel! Big%20smile  I'm about to spin One Shot, 'Ewaz Vader' for the first time...

I've had Ewaz Vader for ages... as well as Vendredi 13... grrr, I must give them a spin!

I have the debut as well, I just need Dark Shot now.

Oh and I have all but one Soleil Zeuhl release on CD.  I had a mad moment and decided to try and buy them all (except those two that aren't Zeuhl).  The only one I'm missing is Archaia I think.  It's oop. Cry

Oh and Melissa, if you only have Angherr Shisspa, which I think you do... then check out Skin Graft Records website for some full length tracks from Koenjihyakkei and Ruins.

Let me find the link...

Ah yes, they have:

Koenjihyakkei Doi Doi (from Hundred Sights of Koenji)
Koenjihyakkei Grembo Zavia (from Viva Koenji!)
Koenjihyakkei Rattims Friezz (from Angherr Shisspa) -- but you have this already
Ruins Hard Rock Medley and Guamallpish (from Pallaschtom)
Ruins Warrido (from Vrresto)
Ruins Praha in Spring and Outburn (from 1986-1992)
Ruins Refusal Fossil (from Refusal Fossil)

Plus lots of The Flying Luttenbachers tracks.  I don't think their version of De Futura is there though.
