From Victoria just take the District or Circle line on the underground - it's about 20 minutes away.

As for pubs around Paddington, I'm not sure - there's a pretty big one called (I think) The World's End more or less opposite, but on a Friday evening it's bound to be packed solid and not necessarily the easiest place to meet up. Leave this one with me.
