I don't remember my country (Turkey) being this terrible in any football tournament. At least, I haven't witnessed such a disaster myself, BEFORE! I've been a football fan for about the last quarter century. I had been following football since a couple of years before then too, but I became a real football fan with Euro 96. It actually began with buying the sticker album of that tournament and buying many stickers for the completion of the entire collection. It was very fun... and costly. Costly, not solely because of the fact that they were really expensive, but also because one had to buy the stickers in packages including 5 cards; and you never knew what those sticker cards were before unpacking! Lots of "same card!" frustrations went with it, for sure. Bartering with friends helped, but still I had to spend a fortune for that!
1996 was also the inception of the uniquely fantastic period of my team Galatasaray. Those were the years, my friends!!! Anyway, we were unimaginably incompetent in this competition. I don't feel shame at such things, yet it is still very unpleasant... Edited by Shadowyzard - June 20 2021 at 13:22 |

The most deplorable things in the championship so far: Turkey and VAR. And neither surprised me today. (You know what VAR did today again, too.) Yet, VAR will see the final match. This is not fair!

Turkey's defence is like a Swiss cheese. Hard to believe how much they allow.

^ Headers and attacking organisations thereof is Germany's biggest offensive asset and strength; and when they are in good shape and can mingle their composure with motivation, it is VERY HARD to stop them. History has proven this many times.

Hi, My thoughts are that the Portuguese coaches did not realized how the Germans could/would use their aerial bombardment and take over the game. Portugal did not close down the sides much and paid dearly for it ... very poor coaching and adjustments in my book and it should have been handled half time, but they did not change anything and when Germany saw the lanes open, why not? Take it home! Well deserved win, and also a much better coaching job seeing that Portugal was enamored with doing things through the middle because they really did not have an aerial game! And defended like they played! Badly!

Yes, Flick will do it. Probably a good choice. My personal opinion was that Loew had to go at the very latest after losing 0-6 against Spain, but what can I say... Obviously if they now go on playing as in WC 2018 or the later Nations League, my earlier views will be confirmed, but if they go on like yesterday, everything is possible.

^ I think they even have Loew's successor in place (Hansi Flick?) We've all learned that you write off Germany at your peril.

Gotta say I'm surprised. I thought Loew's time is more than over, hoping to replicate his world cup winning football in the last seven years with a squad that is less and less up for it, but suddenly they can put it on again. Awesome! I'm following the football for about 50 years and still am crap at predictions (sorry Italy I'm optimistic for you but that doesn't mean much). France won't worry too much about that draw, In Germany we say "a good horse doesn't jump any higher than it has to" - at the end France will be in the round of 16 and Hungary will be out, despite the earlier match. (But don't forget, I'm crap at predictions.) |

In all honesty and fairness, I wished that Hungary and Turkey could have swapped their groups... We (Turkey) were doomed to fail in any group in this period, whereas Hungary would have a fantastic chance in our group!
They still stand a fair chance though; and if they manage to qualify for the second stage, I'll heartily applaud them. Edited by Shadowyzard - June 19 2021 at 15:55 |

And again a clear penalty of Poland was not given in the first quarter of the match, and Lewandowski disputably committed a foul just before his header goal. OK. I hereby declare that I'll try very hard not to be "the penalty guy" of PA again. Edited by Shadowyzard - June 19 2021 at 15:23 |

Lewandovski's goal was a classic strikers header. What a horrible penalty.

Quite happy and satisfied with all the results and the quality of the first two games today. The Germany - Portugal match was typical. Not surprised in the least. Germany is always a threat to any team. And Spain couldn't win! It was very fun to watch how they played, or couldn't!

Germany sorted themselves out. Portugal back line looked old and slow. Got to cut off Germanys supply lines on the wings.

They may not be too worried about finishing 2nd as they'd play the winners of the England-Croatia-Scotland-Czech group. |

Let me be clear here... Being clueless about something encompasses FAR MORE than a single wrong judgment, if mine was wrong at all. It could be... I'll not deny it. Yet you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, jumped to a ridiculous conclusion. FACT. |

Hi, Was gonna say ... France could have wrapped things up and instead slept through it. One bad result and they will not go far, and get a tough team to play in the next round instead of an easier one!
