I am curious, you know.... What do you think the right mindset to enjoy DT is? I've never seen it in terms of mindset.... Just a question of personal reaction to music, as always happens in my case.

With all of the RIO and Avant that you have been listening to in the past couple of years I think that you have moved away from the appropriate mindset needed to enjoy Dream Theater.  Although, admittedly some people (who will remain unnamed but reside in the Art Rock household) have never had that mindset.  I am interested to see how it will effect me once it arrives in the mail and I have had a chance to digest it.  I think that aside from Portnoy's attempts at singing I will probably like it.  Historically, with DT, I tend to like most of their songs.  I have noticed though that I don't really care for the songs that Portnoy is given sole writing credit for.  At least in recent history.

I won't deny that that might be part of it.  But I do think this album is going to get mixed reviews around here.

It already has.  Right now it has a 3.5.  That's almost as mixed as it gets.

I did find it interesting that The T was somewhat critical of it, although he does expect that it will grow on him with repeated listens.

Yes, I re-read his earlier post, and realised I'd asked a dumb questionEmbarrassed... You know, old age and all thatLOL!

Anyway, I agree with Pat 100% - they're beneath you, and you should try to forget them as much as it is possible. People of that sort are contemptibleDead.

He's for all intents and purposes finished with all real academic involvement; only the graduation ceremony remains.

I'll be blunt:  they're being a****les about this.  Screw 'em, you're moving on to bigger and better.

Rob, sorry if I don't understand things clearly, but are you still attending that school (meaning secondary, or high, school)? You know, by their reaction I would say they resented you in the first place, and found the first excuse at their disposal to hurt you. I could write a book on people reacting like that, and the motives behind it... While I don't think getting drunk is a good idea, I am not in the least surprised that this happened at a party of young people, and neither should the school people be. It's clear to me it is some sort of petty revenge, though I don't know why.

I think they've called my parents (worse that my dad teaches there; a really decent guy), and said I 'won't be welcome at' the graduation evening and prize-giving ceremony (prize for classics, couple of books, which I wouldn't mind reading, but still, we'll see if they decide to send them on). Personally, I couldn't care less if I don't get to go to their piddling ceremony where they disguise the fact my year didn't do as well as the previous one, that they've decidely not included us in any decisions, and that they've denied us freedom as far and as pettily as possible, but my mum (she's been, and I'm very grateful for it, able to see past the incident)'s been somewhat upset by it, and it's possible, but unlikely, that they could try to disrupt my results or move to university, so I'm not provoking them.

And yeah, I'm certainly not proud of this; but basically, I drank too much, and I didn't realise it until I got back to get collected (that's all). OK, I accept it was a mistake, and I'm not drinking that much again... but the response seems unreasonable to me, I resent the school's continued mixture of hypocrisy, pettiness and blatant claiming credit for my achievements. Still, 'sgone.

Hypocritical, overreacting berks, methinks, and I doubt they'll be taking my (photoshopped badly, obviously, because smart people are always beautiful...) face off the Oxbridge successes photo anytime soon. I can't say I find myself really caring.

Hey, you went to Warwick?  I went to high school in Lincoln!  Small world!

Say, didn't you say once you were from England or something?

Clown

Seriously (echoing Rico) what happened?
