I believe that it is already a great success that these interactive polls continue with at least a dozen participants. Taking part in these polls makes each of us spend a lot of time, as TCat knows well, who had to leave us to take care of the new prog artists. Everyone has their own interests and family and personal problems. For example, I have had various personal problems in the last two years and to participate in these polls I had to leave out the activity of reviewer, my presence in the group reserved for the collaborators of Progarchives and also my activity in the Prog Polls. In my opinion, as regards the duration of the Polls we can be flexible, for example: the forumist that opens the poll could decide whether to make it last only one week (with an immediate nomination) or two weeks. |

Lorenzo, I was more sounding out how frequently participants want the polls up again, and how much interest in the polls continue amongst the participants.
As far as length, there still seems to be a bit of a curve, most (who speak up, anyway), like the 2-week model, less liking the shorter or longer models, but there are still fans of both.
It seems that we've lost a few participants along the way, especially during and after the holidays. We also have some newer participants. Wondering if some momentum was lost because of it, or have people begun merely become busier as Covid restrictions lift, so therefore don't have as much time or whatever reasons to participate? |

I definitely like the two week length (one for submissions/listening), and one for nominations/re-listening/voting). I simply have too much going on in my life to be able to participate, were the timescale to be shorter. And, as is obvious by my recent absences, sometimes there is too much going on in my life to take part at all.
I am hoping to, if not the next poll, be able to participate again very soon, as work calms down a little, and staffing issues are sorted. |

^ As I replied to your/Nickie's PM, I'll create my poll around the evening in Turkey, which should correspond to the afternoon in the USA.

Now we've had a few more votes come in from more participants, so I think it's safe for Özgür to begin, if he wishes. Will message him with the same.
Thank you to everyone for your input re poll posting/lengths of time, etc. Anyone else feel free to speak up, in the meantime. I think Lorenzo should certainly be in on any of this, as he is the originator of these polls.

Only speaking for myself (and now entering a quite busy period for the coming months), I think it is a good thing to have at least two weekends for each poll, but also to give time for suggestions to come in. Which means that it would be better to start a poll early in the week or mid-week, so we have a couple of days and the first weekend to listen to all suggestions, the following week for each to get to his/her nomination and then the rest of the week and the weekend to listen and vote. I know some of us only listen to the nominated songs, so then it might become long, but I like to listen to all suggestions put up by each and everyone of us (makes me discover more music!). And that takes time, which for me is now much more concentrated in the weekends...

The holiday season got very slow, understandably.

@Nickie
I started the current poll on Sunday before last, in the afternoon CET. The voting period started last Sunday. So far only 4/11 people have voted. I think we need 2 full weeks incl. one full we per poll, if the main idea of our interactive polls is to share and discuss music. People have a different pace of life. So if someone wants to skip one edition he/she won't have to wait too long for the next one to begin. Edited by Mila-13 - February 11 2022 at 12:33 |

Thank you both for your input so far. I am hoping that Lorenzo will have time to chime in, as I think of them more as his territory than mine, although I am covering for him for now.
I understand your point, Logan, once a week was hard even for me, though, and that's from a retired person (with lots of interests). Others work, some only have time on weekends to listen. It seemed like we had the best showing of votes in the past, going over 2 weekends, but I could be wrong.
Anyone else, too, please join in. |

I rather feel like an interloper here as I haven't been involved in the polls for some time, but looking at it, yes it seems to be losing some steam, but I think the turnouts are still healthy. Having a smaller number lends itself to a little more intimacy and does make it easier to listen through. I'd rather go see a band generally at a small bar than in a stadium, and I will listen through 45 or so minutes long albums more than 2 hour long ones.
The polls have been going on for a long time. It is nice, maybe, if some new blood does join and shakes things up a bit with maybe some rather different rules and fresh beats for the deadbeats. For me, and this is just about me, I like consistency when it comes to the length of the polls, and scheduling (I have become more conservative in my middle-age in some ways). It is the antic...i...p...pation (Frank N Furter) of a new poll coming at a fairly expected time that excited me. And I wanted to see them keep rolling out regularly from people. At some point they extended from a week to two weeks, then to three weeks and variable duration. I did lose some interest when polls got prolonged and there were delays with new ones. I thought before that we could have a new poll every week with overlap between the nomination process in one poll and the voting process in another, but maybe that would have burnt people out more. I do think it's fun to try new things, and be flexible and see that various people are trying new things and bringing new ideas to the table because (it's the communal aspect of this that I like, but also seeing the individuality of each take and theme from the members who make polls). I think we lost 4-5 people that participated (at least).

Kind of a low voting turnout so far, but I looked back and these are looking more normal. Wondering if anyone would rather wait a bit, or not? Are the polls kind of slowing down? Just wondering what others think who have been here for a while.

So, shall I create the poll today? Is the previous one over and done by now? |

I won't worry too much. lol It's just that by coincidence the first two voters both made mistakes, by voting for their own entry f.e., c'mon?! @Lewian, you are right, it's through this conversation in the team thread that I became aware of that problem. And now that I'm hosting a poll myself I want to make sure that everything is ok. Edited by Mila-13 - February 08 2022 at 08:52 |

True, there is always a troll messing in our polls. Just saying that she should not worry so much.

I've got to give to Mila that this is not quite true. There has been troll voting earlier, it has been mentioned, and we were not exactly happy about it.

I'm pretty sure that's not possible, and neither do I think it's a good idea. This is an open forum and voting without writing stuff is a form of participation. If somebody listens to stuff in these polls and votes but doesn't write anything, that's fine by me, and voting being anonymous is part of the general voting setup for good reasons. It also means that there isn't much discipline in the forum and mistakes (and occasional acts of trolling) happen. I think we just have to live with that. (Even lower level constraints on voting that I'd actually agree with don't seem to be doable, like only allowing people to cast max. 3 votes, and only on different options.)

if there isn't voting abuse, it makes sense. Nobody has worried about voting here, you are the first. Voting opened yesterday, it'll take a couple of days for all of us to vote.

@Cristi Maybe voting by PM (message addressed to the poll conductor) would make sense. Sometimes people forget to mention in their posts what they want to vote for. Sometimes they write what they want to vote for but forget to use the voting table etc. It is in the first place about sharing and discussing music, but then again the poll format doesn't make much sense, you see?
