HI

And the band he came from is METRO ... and Fish on Friday just did one of their best known pieces.

Both "The Wild Places" and "Streets of Fire" are truly beautiful albums, and they come out as really well defined and put together. There isn't a single piece in those 2 albums that does not stand out.

These 2 albums are one of the things that I come back to many times ... they are so neat and highly recommended although some folks might not think of this as progressive. It is progressive in the sense that things are a bit longer and the music itself has a certain feel that helps spread out its music really well.

I always find it sad when I only discover an artist long after they've lived and died. Such was the case with Duncan Browne who passed away in 1993 when the Internet was still in its infancy and YouTube was still twelve years away in the future. Sadly, Duncan Browne wasn't to know that his wonderful music would be rediscovered and reappraised well into the 21st Century, thanks to the modern wonders of the Internet. Hug

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

PAUL BRETT      A folk singer and 12-string guitarist who appears to be increasingly bitter as he's gotten older in a classic example of the ever-popular tortured artist effect, first mentioned by Todd Rundgren and epitomized by Roger Waters. Tongue

BREAD LOVE & DREAMS     One of the rare forgotten treasures of the British Prog Folk movement (and also the title of a South Korean TV drama!), Bread Love & Dreams were a Scottish trio who went down a storm at the 1968 Edinburgh Festival. Their acclaimed Amaryllis album is a fragrant flower that's worth $10 of anyone's Bread, so spare some Love and whisper sweet Dreams for the charmingly delicate sound of Bread Love & Dreams. Heart

ANDY BOLE      Gwasshopper say:- The heaven of a gwasshopper is the wheat field; the heaven of man is the same place. The very earth itself where we get our food and build our happiness. Life is in stages. There is a stage where, like gwasshoppers, we hop from gwass to gwass. And another, where we move from gwass to grace.... Bouzouki player Andy Bole had a restless urge to begin life anew, and so, instead of being known as plain old Andy Bole, he became Shankara Andy Bole, thereby adding a touch of Indian mystique and mysticism to his name and at the same time, paying tribute to his mentor Ravi Shankar. Smile

BLUEHORSES     Cardiff-based band Bluehorses are locked and loaded with twin attacks of electric fiddle, electric harp and thunderous drumming. Bluehorses are one of the heaviest Prog Folk bands you're ever likely to hear this side of Mt. Snowdon, having once blown Hawkwind off the stage, so batten down the hatches and prepare for an all-out Sonic Attack from a band that's been acclaimed as the finest live band in the UK. The quiet and peaceful valleys of South Wales will never be the same again. Bluehorses are a band who really DO deserve to win a Grammy Award for Best Heavy Metal band - unlike Jethro Tull. Tongue

BLUE EPITAPH       Music gives soul to universe, wings to mind, flight to imagination, charm to sadness, and life to everything, so why not take flight with Blue Epitaph - a short-lived psych-folk duo, consisting of Peter Howells & Jim Gordon, who made a brief comeback as Magus in 1980.

BLACKMORE'S NIGHT    It's time to remember All Our Yesterdays as we journey back in time to the Middle Ages with guitar legend Ritchie Blackmore and American singer Candice Night. They first got together under the Shadow of the Moon and formed Blackmore's Night back in 1997. Their particular brand of Prog-Folk is best listened to Under a Violet Moon in front of blazing log Fires at Midnight. That's when we fondly remember those nostalgic Past Times with Good Company. The folk music of Blackmore's Night is as charmingly delicate as the Ghost of a Rose glowing in the light of The Village Lanterne during a Christmas Winter Carols service.

BEAU       A folk singer and guitarist with 12 strings to his Beau, but the attraction of one man and his acoustic guitar wears a bit thin after seventeen albums. In all honesty, from Beau's 2009 comeback onwards, once you've heard one album, you've heard them all. A word of warning: Beau sounds more bitter than Roger Waters on his latest album, if that's even possible. Confused

 3 stars 1971: Beau - Creation - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKRQGeNtA54

Oh well, at least there's Blackmore's Night to look forward to tomorrow if you want to hear some Past Times with Good Company. Big smile

SYD BARRETT       Syd Barrett - the original guitarist with Pink Floyd on Piper at the Gates of Dawn - was a creative genius in his Time, having written such psychedelic Relics as Arnold Layne and See Emily Play, where his enigmatic lyrics were sometimes Obscured by Clouds.  Sadly, his overuse of the psychedelic drug LSD led to Brain Damage and mental illness. In A Momentary Lapse of Reason, he's rumoured to have walked all the way from London to his home in Cambridge. It's with Sorrow we remember that Syd is now Comfortably Numb, having gone to The Great Gig in the Sky in The Endless River of eternity, but his memory lives on forever in the lyrics to Shine On You Crazy Diamond

ARMY OF BRIARS     I keep feeling Fascination whenever I discover a new band, so why not Open Your Heart with some Love Action for the new sound of Army of Briars - not so much an army as a folky foursome from the coalfields of South Yorkshire and surely the best band to emerge from Sheffield since The Human League.

Want to hear more? Well, Army of Briars represent a juxtaposition of adventurous, constantly shape-shifting instrumental chiaroscuro, replicating the curious duality of the seemingly diametrically opposed states of solitude and connectedness that may often characterize our experience of nature - at least according to Prog Folk Radio anyway. Smile

ARCH GARRISON     Offshoots, leaves and briars and the real life Flintstones! Indie Folk duo Arch Garrison are an offshoot of North Sea Radio Orchestra, consisting of Chris Fortnam and James Larcombe. When Chris isn't making music, he likes to don his walking boots and go out on a pilgrimage to nowhere with his dog across the chalky South Downs of England whilst investigating Neolithic Great Stone Culture along the way, as you do. Smile

DAN ARBORISE     He's in the trees! Dan Arborise sounds like a curious mongrel cross between John Martyn and Nick Drake, so if you're looking for some happy-clappy feel-good music to brighten up an otherwise dull day, then you'd better look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you're a fan of Nick Drake's mournful folk dirges and you're forever hoping it might get Bryter Layter, then Dan Arborise will be right up your alley. Smile

IAN ANDERSON      He's been described as a deranged flamingo with his famous one-legged flute stance, making him the instantly recognisable leader and only continuous member of Jethro Tull - voted the best Heavy Metal band ahead of Metallica at the 1989 Grammy Awards. Most of the audience that night burst out laughing and they're probably still laughing now, but that's living with the past and Ian Anderson has been laughing all the way to the bank ever since. Smile

AMBER     A pearl in the jewelled crown of Raga Rock from the Indian subcontinent, featuring a sitar and tabla drums. What more do you need to know? It's the most authentic Indian experience since I last visited the Taj Mahal - my local Indian restaurant - and ordered a curry and poppadoms. Smile
