Man, I can't believe this sh*t. So sad.
ELP were the first prog band I've listened to with Floyd. I got Trilogy for my 15th birthday in 2007 :'(

Very saddened by this. I said this already elsewhere but I think what comes out is how he took directly the dumbing down of culture which could not understand or appreciate his music. He had everything, the rebellion and the scholarly approach to music in one place, yet he was unjustly treated by many.

just got home and since I was in a trench all day I hadn't heard.
shocked.. about all I can say.
A sad day for progressive rock.. only Fripp is in the discussion for singular impact on the music. Even then Fripp takes second. Emerson WAS prog man. The single greatest rock keyboardist that ever lived..
RIP man.. and hold a seat at St. Patricks open for me. First couple of rounds will be on me as long as you let me go on about how hot Carl Palmer and his hair were...

Keith followed George Martin. Oh gosh! Least expected and worst news. We were promised the show that never ends and Keith's music lives on. R.I.P.

Ouch! I know many of the day are getting on in age, but damn, they are happening so close together...
Oddly enough, just yesterday I found a Emerson, Lake, and POWELL CD in a thrift store and got it because I had not heard it before...strange.
RIP, Keith. ELP, Floyd, and Yes were the gateway for me into prog, Thanks!

RIP to another huge name in Prog. But the sound of his unique keyboard playing will forever be in our minds.
Tarkus will be his crowning glory to me personally.

Just heard the news and immediately thought of this website. ELP was a huge influence on my musical taste, what a terrible loss. RIP Keith

This strikes me pretty deeply - ELP and The Nice were some of my earliest prog finds and loves, they've always brought me so much enjoyment. The derision, as you all know, is undeserved, as those bands' music is at the least the most fun you can have outside a house of ill repute, if not sometimes just stunning displays of composition and playing. Emerson had a knack for translating age old orchestral pieces and styles into his rock in a way that no other progger could even dream of doing themselves. And his demand that he bring a mega-Moog on stage was just the best use of '70's rock star extravagance.
RIP, man.

My head is still reeling upon reading this. Very sad indeed (though I always thought he'd outlive Greg.....)

RIP Keith, you are the mightiest player of them all.
Kindest thanks for your immortal music. Ars longa vita brevis. I´ll play "Jerusalem" and "Intermezzo" from "Karelia Suite" for your memory.
