I've never been crazy about him myself...but I grew up listening to country and rock anyway (and I never cared for his grunting and "hee-heeing" between every line)...

But I'm talking about his popularity, not anyone's opinion of his music.  Obviously most "prog" folks around here aren't going to be huge fans of his.

You all know my feelings on the term "overrated", but if ever that word were to apply "King of pop" is definitely the case.

Yeah, you're right about all I've known are the scandals. But I was asking my mom stuff about him this morning and a lot of what she said was along the same lines of what you're saying about his popularity. I guess I was a few years too late to really know. Disapprove

David (and to others your age) - you probably can't appreciate the level of this guy's popularity; there is currently no one around today that was as huge as he was in the early to mid-80s.  He absolutely was the biggest star I've ever seen in my lifetime.  It's almost a bit sad that all the younger folks grew up with and know are the "weird" stories, the accusations, the lawsuits, etc. , but the "King of Pop" was not some hyperbolic tag placed on him by an overzealous journalist or something - it really was the truth.  He was at the pinnacle.
