I've never been crazy about him myself...but I grew up listening to country and rock anyway (and I never cared for his grunting and "hee-heeing" between every line)...

David (and to others your age) - you probably can't appreciate the level of this guy's popularity; there is currently no one around today that was as huge as he was in the early to mid-80s. He absolutely was the biggest star I've ever seen in my lifetime. It's almost a bit sad that all the younger folks grew up with and know are the "weird" stories, the accusations, the lawsuits, etc. , but the "King of Pop" was not some hyperbolic tag placed on him by an overzealous journalist or something - it really was the truth. He was at the pinnacle.
Yeah, you're right about all I've known are the scandals. But I was asking my mom stuff about him this morning and a lot of what she said was along the same lines of what you're saying about his popularity. I guess I was a few years too late to really know.

Hey Pat, how are you?
Pretty good. Still shocked about MJ, though. Crazy.
How about you?
I'm doing well...brainstorming a new project. I just got approved to symphonic.
Yeah, this has been a bad year for celebrity deaths. Jackson's death really made some claws come out on PA.
Awesome! Congratulations, Robert!
And yeah, I'm still kind of surprised about MJ. But at work yesterday one of the TVs was on CNN and they didn't stop talking about it all night, so I got a.....pretty good fill of it.
