DREAM THEATER FANATICS WILL OWN ELP FANATICS!

At Least ELP fanatics admit ELP wasn't perfect perfect.  It woudl be nice if DT fans would do the same for DT.

These people then sart moving into other areas of prog and start to learn about all the great prog bands of the 70's as well as the so-called Neo-Prog bands of the current day. Any band that helps spread the word about this great music we all love is OK in my book! Give the fanboys a break. I was the same about Yes in 1977-78. I eventually moved on to many other forms of prog both modern and not. The DT fanboys that you all hate so much will move on eventually as well. I say any band that gets somebody excited about prog has done the world a great service. If all we do is criticsize these new prog fans, then they will come away from this experience with a bad taste in their mouth. Is that really what we want to do? Do we really want to show these newbies to prog that they are entering a music world full of snobs? Or worse, that they will find prog really is as pretentious as they have been told? That's all we need. Ok, I step down from my soapbox now!

Great Post.  But the ones that annoy me that I'm talking about don't come into the prog world trying to explore, they come in thinking that they know it all, and that DT is the final authority on all Prog, and that the 70's scene was crap compared to the supreme greatness of DT.  (ok my run-on sentence is complete)  THAT pisses me off.

But as always, these DT threads have a lot of staying power! Which annoys some members I guess!

The arguments in this thread are the same ones used in an ELP bashing thread......

DT are a valid producer of fine modern prog-metal - either listen and enjoy or get off on whatever floats your boat.....

oh its just fun

And it didn't begin as a "DT" bashing thread so much as a "DT fanatic" bashing thread.

What exactly has he done which inclines "Breaking the rules"?

I think it was me calling him "pathetic".

The quality of the reviews give a much better indication of the quality of the music, so I think this type of review is actually quite helpful.

I understand that, but at the same time it confuses me. I could go right now if I wanted to and write a review of every Dream Theater album. I could analyse every song and why I like it, and each album would get five stars.  It sounds like you are "looking" for reasons to give them five stars.

Once that's done, my review will only receive all these comments about how it's from a typical "Fanboy who hasn't considered his review".

Ya'mean?

   - Five Stars - There is no way for EVERY ALBUM.  I understand you givign some of their best albums 5.  But it sounds like they are getting the 5 star stamp for having the DT seal.

By the way, great thread, fun stuff, It sayed much more civil than I expected it too, And I am not tryin to pick fights, I am just tryign to understand DT fans, I just don't understand them.

Basically, I'm putting the blame for all these wars on oldie prog fans (who don't like Dream Theater). Now I can't judge any of you because I don't know you, but the GENERAL IMPRESSION I get from you all is "Dream Theater isn't prog. Yes/ELP/Genesis (Anyone else)... IS prog. If someone likes Dream Theater, they are ignorant to prog music and know nothing".

Can't you just give up, man You can listen to DT every minute for the rest of your life, it's just fine with me, but now I must say that everything's probably has been said in this matter, so won't you just stop, please!

I can tell you haven't been here long mate. Why should I "Give it up"... As a Dream Theater fan, I always have to hear all these insults and comments... If I said something negative about ELP, I'm sure an ELP fan would argue some point with me.

I've already had a bit of a set to with Flowerchild over this! We've shaken hands now though
