Such devotion to duty! Well done, looking forward to next Friday. Good job we didn't make it today as it's Friday the 13th!

Nice one, Simon!

What if it's a good restaurant, but with a crack lounge and knocking shop upstairs? Can we stick with it then?

Indeed we can sir. I'll ask the waiter if they offer such services with the desserts.

Can I assume that I'm booking a table for roughtly 12 people?

The thought had crossed my mind, Dick.

But how to get a leicester by train raid UT and come back in three or four hours. (how long is the train ride anyway?)

Maybe they can open on sunday morning>>>>>>>>>.. just kidding, I think I read somewhere this was banned because of abuse.

If you want to meet a couple of  the quirks of the prog world, then you have to meet Alan and his brother at Ultima. Leicester is about 1hr .20min from London at worst (with a bit of luck 30 quid return or less on Midland Mainline rail), and fortunately the UT shop is literally next door to the railway station in Conduit St, so little chance getting lost finding it. I said quirky: shop opening hours midday to 5pm Wed to Sats but it is always worth ringing or e.mailing to make sure they haven't closed up shop to go touring prog centres of Europe! But you should be safe for the 20th. Sunday opening  LOL: probably at home cooking their mum's Sunday dinner.

WRONGE.

Actually, Hugues raises an important point - any good prog shops us outsiders should know about? I've got countless albums that I really really really must buy (I shan't admit them on here, for fear of being branded an evil music-stealing b*****d... though you all probably know I'm one anyway) so any record shop tip-offs would be much appreciated.

^^^^ let's choose a pub not far away from the Tandoori oven.

3 stars? Good but not essential.

Kind of 'Images & Words' then..?

I was looking forqard to a Foxtrot myself, but the review makes it sound like at least a 4 star..

sigod,  that looks great! Well chosen..

Looks good to me too.
Are we going to meet up in a pub first? I finish work at 5 so I can be in Paddington by 6. We can't possibly have a curry without 8 pints of lager beforehand, after all.

Yep, pub first. That was the plan. We've yet to agree on a pub though.

Porter got its name from the English dockworkers (stevedores, or "porters")  who worked for hire, carrying travellers chests and baggage to and from the ships. For the extra energy needed for such heavy work, they preferred to drink strong, dark beers, and these types of beers came to be collectively named porters, for these hardy men.Geek

I knew about Sleeman, just could not resist that one.

Actually, I never saw this brew in my Crazy Canuck years. When did this microbrewery have its golden days? I left in 88 and have been back for short breaks in 92 and 96, but had no time to really check out the brewing novelties.

I still remember this Upper Canada Breweries bit , but I thought their beers were undrinkable. They prided themselves in adding no preservative in the beers, but their beers did not travel well.

I am so jealous of this thing... meeting up all together

unfortunately  I have to give an exam on the 23rd, so I can't make it

or I could come and be thrown away from the university

I hope everyone has a good time with hours of 'prog related'  conversations

5 stars - a masterpiece of progarchives' brain unification
