I love to hear what's on your heart, Grumpy. Smile
I love sarcasm, David. Nice one. Thumbs Up

In  that case, I probably wouldn't like them. Smile

I like their Clivages (2010).

They haven't released a bad album, they are all very good to sublime.

Absolutely, mainly Bartok & Stravinsky (not Yes & Genesis)

I can say the same of the niche of music I listen to. At least some avantheads participate in forum discussions related to the genre, how about the black midi thread?

Many other threads, especially modern prog, get little to no response. That is the way of PA, endless talks about what shoes Steve Hackett wore when tracking the guitar solo for "Firth of Fith".

Pretty much, I'm all over black midi, one of the best young bands out there, I'm pushing them whenever I get the chance. Add to that Squid & Black County. New Road.

Well they're in 17th, 19th and 20th. CAN I expected there, Cardiacs and Henry Cow less so, there aren't many avantheads here and plenty of haters. Smile

but then again the avant guys dislike the progressive metal, symph and neo listeners. LOL

Well I like avant progressive metal (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Unexpect, Stolen Babies, Behold The Arctopus, etc), I'm pretty sure avant-symph and avant-neo are oxymorons.

Yes, definitely ELP, but they were very successful and popular everywhere else, including UK. On the other hand, Genesis' first 2 progressive albums (Trespass and Nursery Cryme) failed to chart in UK. Popularity in the continental Europe saved them.  Trespass was No. 1 in Belgium, No. 4 on Italian charts. Nursery Cryme was No. 1 in Italy. That's why they were able to keep going. High sales in those countries led to the concert tours in continental Europe. VdGG had a very similar story. Never extremely popular in UK. Only "The Least We Can Do..." reached the Top UK charts (No. 47), but "Pawn Hearts" failed to reach UK charts but was No. 1 in Italy.

Or was it Henry Cow, you were thinking about? Smile

Anyway, to warm your RIO/Avant-Prog heart I can tell that I once wrote an article about those sub-genres and the American band French TV in the Danish at that time best Hi-Fi magazine which was published in Sweden, as well. Smile

Anyway, I surely wonder what "favourite bands" means to you, guys, even there are some answers on that in a new thread started by me, "Is music (albums) or bands most important for you?".
