Welcome to the prog side! Enjoy your journey... Smile

This last week I've been really listening to new prog (for me anyway). Breakthroughs include listening to Supper's Ready and The Whirlwind in their entireties, and loving both. Now I'm listening to Garden of Dreams by the Flower Kings (another Transatlantic alumnus).

Hello to you all,

Please check out a band called Prospekt. They are a mixture of Dream Theater, Symphony X and Pain of Salvation. Epic guitar solos and great vocals all with the combined average age of 23! Definitely one for the future, or even the present.

finally checked out Woe of Tyrants and really liked their recent album "Threnody".  they got more of a "progressive death metal" sound going on this album, reminding me of Between the Buried and Me"

yes, 'kimono my house' is a masterpiece.
Russell Mael (together with Valensia) is one of the rare vocalists who can easily compete with Freddie Mercury in terms of vocal range.

Got to agree with Dr Diper's choice , Midlake , though not my find of the year.

That would have to go to Anathema

Greek heavy/black metal band Rotting Christ. Opened for Bolt Thrower last week in Paris, they were amazing. (But I am not sure if we should post only "prog" discovery in this thread or if other genres are allowed [we are in prog music lounge]).

In prog realm, I don't know there weren't that many bands that amazed me. Some bands that I dscovered recently and that i listened to more than twice : prog metal band Mechanical Poet, stoner prog band Titan and space rock band Ship Of Fools.

1-Leap Day. They are fantastic. Thank you Symphomania.
2-Seeing Muse live was a revelation. I had never heard them at real volume before- only from my daughter's crappy computer speakers. Now I get it. Matt Bellamy is amazing.

Riverside, Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation, Maudlin of The Well are my biggest revelations this year. And I can assure this was a huge year in music for me.

Couldn't agree more.
A wonderful discovery of mine was Isis, I'm a huge fan of them now. They're so great and has even started opening me up to the Post genre.

Er, that was last year.

Well, I've listened to a bit of Magma and can say that I have enjoyed an entire albums of theirs. The 'Zeuhl' genre looks like something I may be diving into in the future.
