I have heard both Karfagen albums, the second is more adventurous but you have to be up to the huge variety I am curious to their next effort, this is a promising band and for sure their prog is very original

Dirk, have you heard the first one? I liked it a lot, but I though I am the only one who finds their second one even better. That superficial feeling of "easy-listening" quickly disappears with repeated listenings, and I find Space Between Us to be very delicate and sophisticated piece of music.

Thanks Ken for FROMUZ video
And thanks a lot Dirk for such a positive feedback on Ukrainian Prog .I found it a bit more relaxed and less prog, but they make it more diverse and interesting (closer to world music). Excellent addition to any Prog collection! I'm hoping to release my Post-Rocky stuff officially in order to be in PA's group's list too You can rate me then!!! |

This thread hasn't been visited for quite a while, actually with the content search body function disabled it's almost impossible to search back to almost anything, i hope this problem will soon be adressed. So i had a lot of problems to find it again only to say that i find the latest Karfagen (a space between us) album to be totally terrific . I was a little less thrilled about the efforts i had to make to find this thread or for that matter anything else .
Edit: i see it is rather easy if you use the google search from the home site so discard my harsh remarks earlier, still it would be easier to have this search on every page instead of the insuffcient search abilities offered by the search option here. Edited by Dirk - July 06 2007 at 21:09 |

Fromuz video. I still need to upload some of the video from Audio Diplomacy at youtube or on the band site, but I found a video of Fromuz playing "Spare Wheel" at Baja Prog this year at: http://www.vimeo.com/clip:193870 The quality is not particularly good, but what can I say, it's bootleg.
There are some other Baja Prog videos there, too. Enjoy |

Good to see that Dawn Dialogue has been added to Prog Archives, they made prog under very difficult circumstances during the Cold War.

Not as off the wall as Disen-Gage or Kostarev Group but excellent stuff nonetheless!
More on the Mystical side. I only listened to Moon 7 but if that`s any indication another cool modern masterpiece from Russia. Love the dreamy cover. Will check the rest out over the weekend. |

OK Prog-jester, here's my review:
THE GOURISHANKAR — 2nd HandsReview by erik neuteboom (erik neuteboom)SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Symphonic Prog Expert Here’s another interesting Russian formation after Little Tragedies, Infront, Aviva, Lost World and Apple Pie: The Gourishankar, what an exciting prog! The sound of this Russian four piece band (with additional guest musicians on violin, saxophone, flute and backing vocals) is a Pandora’s Box of musical surprises. Take for example the first composition entitled Moon7: first a fluent rhythm with heavy organ, fast synthesizer runs, Allan Holdsworth inspired guitar work, powerful guitar riffs and propulsive drumming, in between a swinging piano and suddenly a violin solo or a Spanish guitar with percussion, “never a dull moment”! The other 7 tracks also deliver lots of variety, musical ideas and shifting moods: from swinging to bombastic featuring pleasant work on guitar and keyboards, propulsive guitar riffs, a sparkling piano solo and fiery guitar in Endless Drama, classical piano and violin the short song Taste A Cake, a modern and electronic sound in The Inexpressive Chagrin (including theatrical vocal parts and a saxophone solo), End (a bit similar to Eighties elektro pop) and their ‘magnum opus’ Marvelous Choice (almost 20 minutes): an electronic intro, then bombastic symphonic prog with fiery guitar, followed by lots of shifting moods, nice musical ideas and pleasant keyboard work, from classical piano to flashy synthesizer flights, very dynamic and exciting! My conclusion about The Gourishankar their varied music: it often sounds exciting and captivating but often the music goes into all directions, like from Seventies Prog to Eighties Elektro Pop, you have to be up to that huge variety! |

here's a close approximation: The newest album (in the opinion of many foreigners) by the best progressive group of Russia. The same structure, same verses ???????? (don't know this word), and again freakish interlacing keyboard and guitars. Many of the Internet-edition have put this album in ten the best progressive albums of year. And known musical critic Erik Neuteboom has told, that in Russia there was a group, capable to compete with The Flower Kings, The Tangent and IQ.

I found this on a Russian site about Little Tragedies :
Новейший альбом (по мнению многих иностранцев) лучшей прогрессивной группы России. Тот же состав, те же стихи Гумилёва, и вновь причудливое переплетение клавишных и гитары. Многие интернет-издания поставили этот альбом в десятку лучших прогрессивных альбомов года. А известный музыкальный критик Erik Neuteboom сказал, что в России появилась группа, способная конкурировать с The Flower Kings, The Tangent и IQ.
What about it ..any Russian proghead who can translate this for me? Edited by erik neuteboom - June 10 2007 at 11:49 |
