All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Dear Dr Prog

I have an unsightly rash on my left buttock, could it be Prog related?

Hardly. You sort of half-proposed someone for inclusion in PA (in the wrong place) but the general opinion is that this artist is not prog.

Doc: Seems like you're willfully being obtuse, because our criterias of what constitutes prog differ from your own. Hell we go through this a couple of times a week, whenever someone suddenly thinks that The Fall, Coltrane, XTC, insert fave band with a multitude of different styles - is prog. We then try to explain our criteria again, and if people still fail to either convince us of our mistake or start making silly comments like "PA thread police", we simply ignore you or start thinking about nuking the thread.
Now you haven't done anything to convince us - even in the slightest, so I guess the natural thing for me to do is to mimic Dean's avatar. I'm not going to lock this. It's in the right section now, and if you, or anyone else, want to discuss this man's musical efforts, then do so here.

Sorry it doesn't have any mellotrons
Poor Ronnie Fosters cool tunes won't be heard in this isolated thread

That's not what Prog is. Using that catch-all definition it is possible to justify to yourself the inclusion of any band or artist into the archive, whether you like them or not. You could justify including Frank Sinatra or Yanni or Justin Timberlake into the archive because they made records that weren't "straight" styles of music if you bend your personal definition of what Prog is sufficiently.
Everything that is music is related to Progressive Rock in lesser degrees, but Prog related (with a lowercase "r") is not Prog Related (with an uppercase "R") by the inclusion criteria of the Progressive Rock Archive. If we were to include every artist that fitted someone's personal definition of Prog related (with a lowercase "r") we would become yet another RYM clone site and not the specialist Progressive Rock site that we aim to be.
Ronnie Foster is tagged as Soul Jazz / Pop Jazz/Crossover by JMA and nothing I've heard here contradicts that, (aside from a bit of 70s Jazz Funk in parts perhaps). If you like his music then go to his artist page at JMA and write a review, because currently there are none for his any of his albums.

Lol. U missed the point completely. I said jazz and classical based melody. I'm talking about complex, clever great sounding music which can only be made by musicians brought up on jazz and classical music as well blues, r n b, folk. I don't listen to modern music. Timberlake? Lol you couldn't be any further from prog there. Just read my desert island list and pretty much every one is in prog archives

I missed no point. Everything you like is Prog related because it (apparently) has jazz and classical based melody (which it doesn't btw, but you keep believing whatever you like to justify liking whatever you like). I got what you are saying, you however, have failed miserably in understanding my reply.
Now, are you going to write Foster album reviews for JMA or are you going to continue to prattle on about nothing here instead?

I can go through every band I like and prove jazz and classical are main forces behind their rock based music. Pretty much all are in the archives too. I know what I'm talking about ;)

That's not the point and you still are failing to understand my reply.

I moved this to the general music discussions.
Doc: if you are serious about suggesting this guy, then please take a look at some of the (well written and informed) suggestions we have in that part of the forum. That means music in the form of vids or links, like you have provided here, but also bio and thoughts on why you think it deserves a place on here, ie Prog Archives.
Personally I don't hear enough to warrant an inclusion. If we started including this type of jazz, we would end up with Jazz Archives pt 2.

This may be blasphemous to some, but let's be honest: not all good music is Prog, nor is all Prog good music.

It is not blasphemy at all. I also appreciate a bit of honesty, and, you are right, not all good music is prog, and neither is all prog good music, either.

So far, so agreed!Tongue

However, this is, unless I am mistaken, a progressive rock music archival site, not a jazzy twiddling knobs site, not a porngraphic electronic site. Nor a throbbing gristle site. It is a prog rock site.

You are right that the site has a complete catalogue policy, which is also, in the context of a progressive rock site, a bloody silly policy, frankly. Miles Davis is merely the silliest example we have of blatantly non prog albums being included. If this were called Progandothersortsofstuffarchives.com then fair enough, I suppose. It ain't though.

BTW, the suggestion is one of the daftest I have seen, and that is saying something.
