Surely Smell the Glove is just as innovative Shark Sandwich, Intra-Venus De Milo, etc. I mean, never has a cover been so black. I defy you to give me a cover that could be none more black than this. Besides, you could see yourself in both sides. Now tell me its not an innovative album.

We disagree again TP. Smell the Glove is in fact a deeply sensitive and personal statement - it's not 'sexist' it's 'sexy' (there's such a fine line). |
Ah but come off it! Musically it's just a pop rock album. Where are the epic songs like Stonehenge?
|
Whilst I admit it does not match the transcendant heights of Intra-Venus de Milo there is still much for the average prog fan to enjoy. |
Am I the only Taphead that liked Smell the Glove????It appeals to the metalhead in me,I find it refreshing that they were trying out new things and going in a new direction.
And IMHO Intra-Venus de Milo is highly overrated

It's good but somewhat indulgent. Did they really have to make it a double album?

Surely the Wakemanesque keyboards on Stonehenge alone are enough to guarantee The Tap entry into the archives. |
They even have a "Queen-like" song....Big Bottoms, sort of like Queen's "Fat Bottom Girls"
Big Bottoms

I think they had their prog moments but to classify their vast catalogue as prog would be misleading. Their main prog effort released in 1975 ( no doubt inspred by Yes' "Tales" and Genesis' "The Lamb" was the concept album ( double?) The Sun never sweats ( which seems awfully close to Nous Sommes Du Soleil) .The Sun never sweats bombed badly and the band were less adventurous after that. I've never been able to get a copy of the Sun never sweats so maybe someone who has could let me know if it was indeed a double album
I see their inclusion as being as controversial as Queen's

Surely you'd need 6 extra stars?

But for Spinal Tap our rating would go up to 6,because that's one higher.
