Only saw about half of those,  El Secreto De Sus Ojos being my favorite among those which I did see. My favorite movie from the 00's (and from the 21st century) is In Bruges, not listed here.

So many of these I haven't seen.  For me it was a tossup between Donnie and Mulholland.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Lots to choose from. I was about to pick No Country for Old Men for it's sound design (read: no music) and cinematography, but settled instead on Elephant for its style and general ballsyness.

I love Gus Van Sant, he can always make your skin crawl and yet somehow stays hidden from the mainstream. I guess it's the overtones.  Confused

Nearly went for Miyazaki, bu then I saw Broken Flowers - which has a great soundtrack too - and had to go with Bill's ultra-dry performance in a slightly unsettling film.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I love that trilogy.

I was considering Spirited Away, but I find Howel's Moving Castle to be a better film.

Well, I haven't seen Abre Los Ojos, the original Amenabar film. Perhaps if I would have, it would be on the list instead of Cameron Crowe's remake.


Abre Los Ojos (hadn't forgotten the Spanish title) came out in 1997 so it would have had to make your 90s list.  It's worth watching, but since you've already seen the remade version, inessential.  I didn't really love the original, though I certainly liked it considerably, and enjoyed it more than my wife.   I tend not to like the originals as much when I started with a remake, though there are exceptions, and I guess that would be the same with most.

EDIT: Back then I was mostly kind of anti-Hollywood type films, and almost exclusively watched so-called arthouse films (usually non-English language), so I was biased against the remake from the outset (plus this common bias I've had against remakes commonly -- for instance, loved the Japanese Shall We Dance? which I guess I saw a little earlier than Abre Los Ojos, but hated the remake, but then I think that was a poor remake that missed the charm of the original).
