Quadrophenia, way more proggy.

It's a close one, though, both great albums.

Quadrophenia, hands down. Tommy is the more famous work, and it is one of the greatest albums of all time and a standard which all concept albums are compared to. However, Quadrophenia represents the band's high water mark in terms of musicianship (Who's Next was the lyrical opus). Roger's vox are his best; Pete actually solos and does so with simultaneous finesse and brute strength; John's bass on the whole album, particularly Real Me, Punk and the Godfather, and 5:15, is his best which is saying something; and Moonie manages to focus his skin-bashing into a groovy yet no less vicious beat.

I'm a bit biased towards the Who since I believe John is the greatest bassist ever and that every other member is one of the top ten is their particular field (Townshend for songwriting, not guitar though he makes my top 20 for influence), but nobody can deny their talent. I have tix to see them tomorrow night and I'm pumped despite the loss of the greatest rythmn section in R&B

The Who are my favorite band, and this is a tough choice. "Underture" or "Quadrophenia"?! "We're Not Gonna Take It" or "Love Reign O'er Me"?! Wowzers, both those albums are fantastic. Quad got a little bit too repetitive at points for me, and Tommy just holds a special place in my heart.

I've listened to both just twice, I definately need deep consideration as to confidently decide, but in this adventurous phase Tommy impressed me sliiightly more.

I haven't heard Tommy yet, but I don't see how it (or almost anything on earth) could be better than Quad.

  Tommy for me.

Quadrophenia is great too, but doesn't "beat" Tommy.

I believe that both are brilliant albums, and I don't like being made to choose! However, after having given thought to the matter, I feel that Quadrophenia is the better album.

Seriously, there can be only one.And ofcourse that will be QUADROPHENIA.Tommy is nowhere near the quality of quad. And all those who oppose, take the time and listen to quad say 10 or 15 times and you will understand.

I'd be interested to hear Pete Townsend's opinion on this.  Tommy probably made him more money, but I gotta believe Quadrophenia was a more challenging accomplishment.  It seems Tommy is more of an album geared to creating hits and was more based in sixties stye music where as Quad was a true progression (if you will) for the band.

As an album - Tommy.
As a film - Quadrophenia.

Tommy is fantastic, but very hyped. I have only heard a couple of songs from Quardophenia, but I like them better than most of the songs on Tommy, so I voted Quadrophenia.

Both are albums in my all-time top 10. I prefer the songs from Tommy, but Quadrophenia has much better production. If Tommy had been produced the same way, it would be probably my favorite album of all time.
