Topic: Best Gentle Giant album! Posted: December 19 2005 at 18:18 |
My favourite GG album is and always will be my first by them, "Three Friends". Though I feel "Octopus" is their best album. I wouldn't change a note to be honest. There isn't much difference between the albums "Aquiring The Taste" and "Free Hand" though. All are must-haves!

Extremely difficult choice. While I am still waiting to get copies of a handful of their material, I can say I listen to In a Glass House the most, so I will give it my vote.

I dont have them all yet so I won't vote.
However, my favorites so far are In a Glass House, Free Hand, Octopus, and Power and the Glory.

IMO Free Hand is almost perfect. It is a definition of Gentle Giant at its best.
Acquiring The Taste is their most creative and adventurous, along with In A Glass House.
For me Gentle Giant simply are the best band ever, with no real contestants anywhere near them. They are even better than Stravinsky.

I can't decide between Giant For A Day and Civilian ...
No seriously ... Three Friends ... narrowly ahead of GG, Acquiring The
Taste and Octopus ... an alarmingly consistent band ... I'm one of
those who still hasn't gotten into The Power And The Glory though, and
it may never happen ...
I suppose I like the more accessible early GG albums

I go with Freehand. The title track really made an impression on me when I first listened to it (I got it on right now ).

Since I discovered the band several months ago, my favorite album has constantly been changing. At first it was Three Friends (the first one I fell in love with), then Free Hand for a while. Right now, I think The Power And The Glory is my fave.

Acquiring The Taste. Their most "soulful" album. Incredible album, and in my all-time album top 10. Pantagruel's Nativity, Edge Of Twilight and Black Cat in particular are amazing tracks.
Octopus and Three Friends are my nr. 2 and 3. I love them a lot too. Octopus because it is GG at it's most varied and original, and Three Friends mostly because of the last songs on the album.
