ProgDay 2011: Irene Cancels QUANTUM FANTAY...FREAK KITCHEN Steps Up!
Due to problems with cancelled flights and rebooking costs associated with Hurricane Irene, QUANTUM FANTAY was not able to make it into the US this past weekend. The result is that they have been forced to cancel their upcoming tour scheduled to start this week and will therefore not be able to perform at ProgDay this year. Fortunately for ProgDay attendees, Sweden's FREAK KITCHEN, originally slated to perform at this year's Friday night Preshow, has graciously agreed to rework its tour schedule in order to appear at ProgDay on Sunday, September 4. The band will not appear at the Local 506 on Friday. For further details on the final lineup for the Friday Preshow, please watch the Preshow page at ProgDay.net. ProgDay 2011 features THE TEA CLUB (US), ZEVIOUS (US), PERSEPHONE'S DREAM (US), MÖRGLBL (France), THE REBEL WHEEL (Canada), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), FREAK KITCHEN (Sweden) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US). ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net. Thanks! Michael ------------------- www.progday.net www.michaelbennett.com |

Hi,
Just such a shame that some folks in the East Coast can get this, and the music is not shown or brought out a bit further. I can relate to the logistics and the moneys and all that ... but it is sad ... that in LA an dSF and Seattle ... there is no progressive music ... it's downright pathetic!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

THE TEA CLUB At ProgDay 2011!
After years of teaching themselves to write and play, brothers PATRICK and DAN McGOWAN founded THE TEA CLUB in the fall of 2003. Over time and through the release of four EPs, the band worked, morphed and grew, culminating in their full-length debut, General Winter's Secret Museum. It was considered by many to be one of the highlights of 2008. THE TEA CLUB took things to another level with Rabbit, an album that made many Best of 2010 lists. With comparisons being made to bands like PINEAPPLE THIEF, OCEANSIZE and RADIOHEAD, THE TEA CLUB present a mysterious, intimate and passionate mix of post-rock, alternative and progressive rock. Their unique voice crafts a fresh take on a classic sound. THE TEA CLUB (US) joins ZEVIOUS (US), PERSEPHONE'S DREAM (US), MÖRGLBL (France), THE REBEL WHEEL (Canada), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world. ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. ZEVIOUS Plays ProgDay 2011!
"After The Air Raid...is indeed a fun disc to listen to! These guys have melded the '70's Progressive Fusion Rock idea with a modern sensibility of ideas that should find a home with fans of Mahavishnu Orchestra to Frank Zappa to Progressive Metal fans of bands like Meshuggah. ...a complex, record to say the least, twisting and turning and pushing the boundaries of what Instrumental music could be. Structurally intense, odd and seemingly backwards at times, Zevious do seem utterly mad and genius at the same time." - Butch Jones, Sea Of Tranquility "One of my most recent prog discoveries is Zevious, an aggressive New York City-based instrumental trio that tears a huge hole in the logic of labeling genres. On...After the Air Raid, Zevious takes influences from contemporary jazz artists like Vijay Iyer, the polymetric metal of Meshuggah, the vintage fusion of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and the avant-garde attitude of Magma. ...After the Air Raid defines adventurous music." - Michael Popke, Goldmine "Zevious offer a cutting-edge permutation of that old classic rock stalwart, the power trio. “After the Air Raid” presents...a high-energy blend of sleek jazz/fusion modes, angular math-rock exertions, and a spicy sprinkling of metallic heaviness – challenging without being overtaxing, thoroughly modern without renouncing old-school progressive rock influences. In spite of its innovative potential, Zevious’ music is not meant to be abrasive or forbidding. Its power lies in its ability to keep the listener on their toes, though without wearying them out with a relentless barrage of wildly clashing sounds. ...they pack more twists and turns in their limited running time than many so-called ‘epics’, though without descending into the excesses to which the more experimental prog acts are often prone. ...definitely an excellent effort from one of the most promising bands on the current progressive rock scene. A stunning melting pot of diverse influences and creative ideas, “After the Air Raid” is highly recommended to anyone with a keen interest in genuinely progressive music." - Raffaella Berry, Progressor With influences ranging from Magma to the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Meshuggah, we are happy to present one of the most distinctive up-and-coming bands on the modern instrumental prog scene. ZEVIOUS (US) joins PERSEPHONE'S DREAM (US), MÖRGLBL (France), THE REBEL WHEEL (Canada), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world. ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. PERSEPHONE'S DREAM Plays ProgDay 2011!
PERSEPHONE'S DREAM (fondly known by it's fans as PD) is hard to categorize. Over it's almost 20 year history PD have followed the idea of creating moody mythic music fronted by female vocals and for the most part they have been thought of as being firmly in the "heavy prog" category. With the release of their fifth album, last year's Pan: An Urban Pastoral, the band has entered full-blown symphonic territory to create music that immerses the listener in ambience and beauty, blending symphonic prog with folk and a bit of jazz and metal, all deftly encased in a cinematic presentation with atmospherics worthy of Porcupine Tree. An ambitious work with segments that flow together into one long musical experience, "Pan" is considered by many critics to be one of the top 10 symphonic albums of 2010. ProgDay is pleased to present the first festival performance of "Pan" in its entirety, along with other favorites. PERSEPHONE'S DREAM (US) joins MÖRGLBL (France), THE REBEL WHEEL (Canada), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world. ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. ProgDay Preshow Featuring FREAK KITCHEN From Sweden! The ProgDay Preshow at LOCAL 506 in Chapel Hill on Friday night, September 2, features the performances of three great bands: • FREAK KITCHEN (Sweden): Join the acclaimed progressive-metal band and axemaster Mattias "IA" Eklundh as they make their first assault on the US. "...genre defying albums that mix old-school heavy metal, prog-rock, jazz, blues, pop, and every other style under the sun into the mix. There are two things a fan of FK can always depend on...the great and underrated guitar playing of Eklundh, who shows a great mastery of his instrument...(and) the uncharacteristic lyrical approach to FK's lyrics. The songs themselves show hooky melodies and a staccato style of guitar playing that usually leads to an incredible solo. Be prepared for uber catchiness."- Maskofgojira, Don't Count On It Reviews • THE GALACTIC COWBOY ORCHESTRA (US): Describing themselves as DIXIE DREGS meets RUSH meets MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA...it's jazz-fusion, it's proggresive rock, it's southern rock...okay...it’s really bug-eyed bluegrass from Zeta Reticuli. "GCO need to be heard, to understand just how high the bar for contemporary instrumental music really is in 2011. Fusing together jazz, classical, bluegrass, southern rock, Indian ragas, plus their own original stylings; this quartet...play with fire, precision and commitment. Their brand new release...is simply bursting with individual and collective excellence and is a proper showcase for just how talented this group is." - John Zeigler • CAMERON ALLEN TRIO (US): Up-and-coming fusion guitarist Cameron Allen and his trio kick off the ProgDay weekend. The LOCAL 506 is located at 506 West Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. You must be at least 18 to attend and a valid ID is required. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Doors open at 7:30pm and showtime is 8pm. For more information visit the Preshow page on the ProgDay website at http://www.progday.net/ProgDay-Preshow.html. Join MÖRGLBL (France), THE REBEL WHEEL (Canada), Uˇ JSME DOMA (Czech Republic), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world. ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. MÖRGLBL Tears It Up At ProgDay 2011!
Consisting of guitar master CHRISTOPHE GODIN, bassist IVAN ROUGNY and drummer JEAN-PIERRE FRELÉZEAU, THE MÖRGLBL TRIO released their first album in 1998. "The Mörglbl Trio !!" offered a guitar-driven instrumental combination of jazz and metal served up with dollops of humor that was well received by critics and fans. The heavier "Bienvenue į Mörglbl Land" was released in 1999 to even greater acclaim. The momentum of other projects led to the end of THE MÖRGLBL TRIO in 2000, but everyone stayed in touch. In 2005, while working together on "Christophe Godin's Metal Kartoon," the members found renewed interest in their old band. They reformed as MÖRGLBL and released their third album, "Grötesk," in 2007. French music scene veteran AURÉLIEN OUZOULIAS took over the drum chair in late 2007, and the band went on to deliver a striking set at NEARfest in 2008. Since then they have released "Jäzz For The Deaf," and have become renowned for their take on high-energy, prog/metal/fusion. As anyone at NEARfest X that Sunday morning can tell you, MÖRGLBL at ProgDay will be a performance you won't want to miss! MÖRGLBL (France) joins THE REBEL WHEEL (Canada), Uˇ JSME DOMA (Czech Republic), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world. ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Rebel Wheel Rolls Into ProgDay with Special Guest Guy LeBlanc!
From Ottawa, Canada, THE REBEL WHEEL began in the early 1990s out of a shifting cooperative of musicians working in a myriad of styles producing both improvised and arranged music. Early work tended towards neo-prog, but over the years the band pursued a more aggressive and edgy direction that eventually evolved into the sound they have today. Steeped in dark, cinematic soundscapes and complex turn-on-a-dime arrangements, sometimes dissonant, sometimes mellow, always eclectic, their musical landscape has been compared to WETTON-era KING CRIMSON, ZAPPA, RUSH, PINK FLOYD, and at times even YES and GENESIS. But in the end their personality is all their own. Recently working and gigging as a three-piece while ANGIE MACIVOR is on hiatus with the birth of her first child, THE REBEL WHEEL have expanded their lineup for ProgDay to include guest keyboardist-extraordinare GUY LeBLANC, acclaimed for his work with NATHAN MAHL and CAMEL. We're sure this special show will be a treat for fans of both THE REBEL WHEEL and Guy LeBlanc. THE REBEL WHEEL joins Uˇ JSME DOMA (Czech Republic), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world. ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
