Apparently they entered the studio more than a month ago ... so we should expect a mid-summer release. Here's some links to forum posts about the recording sessions:

Great news if this is true - Neal and Mike are best friends and work so well together
i saw them again on the testimony live DVD and they really have strong unified presence on stage.

I dunno...this certainly sounds very interesting and I will look forward to the release and probably buy the album.....but I am starting to think Portnoy is gonna become this studio session drummer guy with 25 different project bands and never find something that he is pleased with. Which to me tells me I will not see his potential come out anymore after Dream Theater.
And DT will end up as just a so-so metal band that will go thru a different drummer for every album.

^ As much as that sounds good I think Steve has been in a compositional rut for about 10 years. I saw the SMB in January and while the new CD is good it isn't a whole lot different than the last several SMB cds. Maybe working this lineup will open some things up. It sure will be fun live though.

I used to jokingly consider Neal and Steve working together due to the name connection, but never expected to see it actually happen, so I'm pretty excited. I hope Steve Morse is the primary composer. Have you guys heard Dixie Dregs? Incredibly intricate and playful music, would love to hear more from him. Dude's fond of keyboardists with better chops than Neal, though.
On the other side of the coin, he was a lot of fun to listen to in Kansas, so even if it's mostly Neal-style, it'll still be neat.

Its good to see Steve Morse back in the studio....that will be a treat for sure!

I don't see why Jesus would care what Steve Morse writes about. Most of his songs are instrumentals anyway.

Of course Portnoy has another side project... Regardless if you enjoy(ed) DT or not, it's these side-projects, that although amazing, really get in the way of his focus with the band (I believe) - I look forward to it but Portnoy ruins everything for me now ![Cry Cry](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif)

Lol, YES.
Without Petrucci's and Rudess' endless solos these guys are actually gonna make music. |
Are you implying that this is any better?
Look @ Transatlantic.

I really hope this one shines (along with the project with SW and I forgot who else lol), just so he can rub it in the face of the old rusty machine named Dream Theater.

This will be very interesting, Steve Morse with modern Prog "legends", hmm.. Let's hope Neal Morse isn't encharged of the songwriting department, that would make it Transatlantic's unexpected 4th album.
