Surely the best way to lose a war is to die for your country - wars are never won by the side that died the most - sure, some battles are, but  they are called pyrrhic victories. If you want to be patriotic - stay alive.

Which is why the ending of Blackadder pisses me off.

Unless you're talking about Russia.

Yes, Quebec City is beautiful. But Montreal smells like sh*t. I would love to live in the UK.
Dean, Easy Livin and Snow Dog, you are the luckiest guys in the world.

By sh*t, I mean that there's better countries to live. If I lived in the United-States, I would mean like two sh*ts.
But that was just a joke.

Grass is always greener isn't it?

One of the nice things of being on an international forum:
I have found things are really the same all over the world, and life sucks regardlessTongue

Part of it is also we need to give up nationalism. It's silly. "Countries" pfffft invisible lines drawn on the world.
Seriously, we're all the same, trying to make a living and enjoy life. This is 2012...everything is the same everywhere. I love Finland but I'm sure after living there a few months and I "get to the grind" I'll hate things like I always doCool

You might not have any of that music when the evil communists and muslims invade your country, so that's why you should go and fight for your Freedom in the middle east. Stern Smile

A country is a region legally identified as a distinct entity in political geography.

It's complicated. Even in such a politically messed up place such as the Middle East and Israel, I still won't sacrifice myself if I have a choice, not for ideological reasons. On the other hand, if my country would be legislating some very un-democratic laws, as it is doing now, I'd probably take it to the streets, as I'm doing now. I guess I'd fight if my country loses its democratic identity, but I'd never sacrifice my life willingly.

Yes, if our "leaders" were the first ones in line to die there would be a lot less war.

Luckily, we always have somewhere a cruel dictator who can make us fear a bloody invastion and the installation of a totalitarian regime in our countries. So, we are ready to die for our country if it was attacked by said dictator - even if said evil country is located far, far away, through the oceans.

It's not like we were asked to fight against our own governments. Yeah, we don't have to worry about the people we choose as leaders. Never have to.
Come on, we're living in democracies. All our leaders are good, sympathetic, generous and to be trusted.
