I just got back from the ZPZ show. They opened with the One Size Fits All Album. It was great to hear it, but they played it too straight. After that, the band soared. The Grand Wazoo was amazing. Sinister Footwear was also incredible. But Big Swifty may just have been the greatest live performance I have ever seen.

Speaking of Zappa ....his son is playing in my local area doing his Zappa Plays Zappa tour and they are doing One Size in it's entirety.....but couldn't find anyone to go with me and I hate going solo to concerts.

First listen and a very good impression. The first two tracks are short but excellent. Then the serious stuff begins with Wolf Harbor and its six dark parts where the percussion is the most melodic instrument. Varese forever ! The four last tracks are between 2 and 7 minutes. On Goat Polo (8) and Calculus (11), you can hear a Tibetan voice. Rikoniki (9) will sound familiar to those who know the Frank's Syn clavier work. Piano (10), the longest track is fantastic, but it is cut before the end. I don't know, maybe the downloading. Hope it will not happen with the CD.

According to the liner notes, this was finished last. Much of it may have been recorded earlier, but it explicitly notes that the guitar solo is thought to be the very last time he played.

I thought CPIII was the last album as it was worked on til the end. DMT was finished in 1993, no?
I haven't ordered it yet, (waiting for more funds so I can order a bunch of FZ albums from zappa.com to save on shipping) but I have, er.. acquired it, will hopefully give it a listen soon.

I'll surely come off as an outsider here, but Zappa is best represented by Apostrophe and Studio Tan. I've encountered sheer hatred for the latter by more than one Zappa fan, while the former has been generally touted as the commercial breakthrough the artist needed to help sustain all else. I'd like to see a Prog Archive Top Ten thread of Mr. Zappa's work (I sense it may have already been done).
