Both are great and quite different. I like Third better

Third. Listening to Facelift for the first time was mind-blowing.
And Moon in June, probably in my top 5 favorite songs of all time. Edited by progvortex - September 17 2010 at 00:08 |

I do really like both. It would depend on my mood which I prefer so I won't split them.

I think that anyone who did not hear both albums should not be voting here.

I have a feeling Rock Bottom would be winning this if all had heard both. For the popularity of Third on this site I'd not be surprised at all if someone had voted Third and not heard Rock Bottom. The other way around however, is very unlikely.
That being said i might be leaning towards Third, but I can't decide at all. Edited by himtroy - September 09 2010 at 16:33 |

Moon in June is a masterpiece! Both albums are amazing, Third is harder to get into than Rock Bottom though. |

Both are desert-island albums for me. Too hard to pick a clear winner, so I chose "both"!

I agree. I never liked it. Rock Bottom on the other hand is superb. |

Just tied it.
I think Third is an excellent album (my favorite is Facelift BTW) but Rock bottom is very very high on my personal most loved albums list. actualy I think that only Red and First utterance (and maybe H to He...) are in the same level.

Yet another chalk and cheese comparison. Quite different music.
Third: avant early 70's British jazz fusion;
Rock Bottom: (post life changing event) avant pop/rock.
Might as well be more specific and compare Hibou Anemone & Bear with I'm A Believer (or even Shipbuilding) - songs for and from very different times and experiences.

I'm a bigger fan of Wyatt's solo material than his material with Soft Machine. Both are good stuff to these sometimes thirsty ears.

Soft Machine's "Third" is my favourite album of all-time... I love Robert's music, and I would have to say "Rock Bottom" is his best one, but not close to the top of my favourite list.
