Taken from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame website:
"Almost no group in rock history has had such a long and varied career as Genesis, who began as a cult art-rock band in England in the late 1960’s and went on to pack stadiums across the globe in the 1980’s, 1990’s and on their 2007 reunion tour. In the early 1970’s frontman Peter Gabriel shocked audiences and grabbed headlines by taking the stages in outrageous costumes and occasionally even levitating above the audience. Their music was equally innovative, and early albums Selling England By The Pound and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway are two of the most acclaimed prog-rock albums in the history of the genre. In 1975 Gabriel left the band to pursue a solo career and drummer Phil Collins stepped out from behind the kit to take over. The band experienced many more hits and successful worldwide tours over the next 30 years." They actually put more emphasis in the Peter Gabriel era!!!! I am shocked! http://www.rockhall.com/induction2010/#Genesis |

Something of a short, "I-kind-of-know-what-I'm-talking-about-but-I-really-don't" article rated to Genesis being included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Look! there's Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett along with Mike, Phil and Tony, They should all be there at the induction, I hope. Maybe they'll play "Firth Of Fifth" and not "Pinball Wizard" like they did for the encore on the "Mama" tour Chester and Darryl should be there too.

Well I've been there for an afternoon and have also worked on a bunch of Genesis shows over the years.
They are all good guys, making a living doing what they love . Touring gets tedious like any job. Record company pressure is always heavy too although they do have some clout as opposed to other bands.
While they did head into another style of music driven perhaps by Phil C. the remaining trio stayed together till Phil left.
I did not like the music they did after Duke and beyond. being die Hard progressive afficonado that's just my preference.
As for the RR HOF it's futuristic building design is cool , But I found that inside displays were a bit haphazad and not too in depth. There were no special exhibits going on at the time.
After the initial inductees and subsequents I wasn't too impressed with the induction process and who was getting in.
and of course funnel everyone into the gift shop on the way out, that placed looked like any other cd music shop anywhere else. Edited by sturoc1 - December 22 2009 at 09:11 |

I hate to think of artists I like being in the RnRHoF. It makes me cringe to think of some of the company they have to keep there.

Should you manage to survive your mission we are looking forward to your report. If not, get off as many pictures as you can before your head explodes.
Seriously though, I'm really not an Elvis fan at all, yet Graceland was an interesting experience. A nice place, but I wouldn't want to live there as they say. |

As a Clevelander I believe I have been there twice. The first time when I was young and hadn't heard of any of the bands in there and the second time was when I was starting to get into prog. I was bored most of the time but there were some exhibits that would definitely have been neat if I were interested in the bands. The only exhibit I remember had a bunch of different Madonna costumes from different times in her career. I will make a trip there sometime in 2010 to look at the Genesis exhibit and will report back with pictures. |

There needs to be an RRHOF, although it will be impossible to please everyone. Recognition is always better than obscurity.
Kudos to mrcozdude for defending the Hall. Let's give the Hall a little more credit. This site is often too negative.

The only reason to care is that it brings publicity not just to Genesis but the the prog rock genre and maybe help a few modern prog bands stay afloat . That is it.

Actually. if you read the statement carefully they talk way more about the Gabriel years than the Collins years. The only two albums mentioned are Selling England and The Lamb and they state that these are two of the most prolific albums in the prog-rock genre.
\What more do you want?
All five of the classic lineup were invited to play. It is up to them if they want to or not. But if they decide to have another band play for them they should choose the Musical Box imho.
I know to be fair that King Crimson should have been the first Prog band in but I am not sure they meet the sales criteria of the induction requirements. However Yes, Rush, Kansas, ELP and Jethro Tull do. So I think it is just a matter of time and maybe when all of those bands are in they will honor KC as the first by its influence.
