Nice. It's nice to know you aren't ashamed of it either.

The album was finally published in a limited edition of 500, which we sold at our restaurant. It was sold out within four weeks. |

The same words I wrote six pages ago...Music must be music. I wouldnīt like to talk about the bride (or boy) of anyone, I just care about the music they make. But, for any reason, for several members here, this thread is interesting, who knows.
Maybe here is the reason of the existence of the thread.

You'll have to dig very deep to find gay prog-rock (and underground) musicians, and the main reason is that REAL musicians care only about their music regardless of other inferior details like their private/sexual life... (and therefore they don't discuss this kind of topics).
I believe there are a lot of gay prog-rockers though... Excuse my language people! I hate myself enough without you noticing my lousy English. |

Well, I don't know about black metal, but in the related genre of death metal, we have the drummer and one of the guitarists of suffocation. Upon further investigation, the new singer for sepultura is black, athiest and cynic had a black bassist for a little while.
Yup. Not just heterosexual, but a former elitist/snob and metalhead (in other words a potential member of anus.com!). Try to figure that one out
I hate to break it to you, but if it's got shredded chedder cheese, than it just isn't mexican food... Edited by Nuke - July 13 2009 at 19:24 |

Yeah I found that quote and posted somewhere on here.I forgot all about this thread, doesn't seem there are to many prog musicians out of the closet.Which is strange if your to think of prog as a macho genre. Cue Peter Gabriel costumes and Wakemen's glittery cape. |

James Labrie may not be gay, but I'm pretty sure he's a homosexual icon.

Indeed - Power In The Darkness is one of those classic forgotten albums of the 1970s (good Hammond, too); the title track, 'Long Hot Summer', 'Too Good To Be True', 'Winter Of '79' - all classic songs. TR's most famous song, 'Glad To Be Gay' is usually adapted for every tour to take in current issues of the day, so never gets old or sounds dated... [edit] ![]() El Dingo said "See how PA can stimulate the brain" - it just stimulated my wallet; thanks guys, you reminded me of this album & I just went on to Amazon & bought the remastered version ![]() Edited by Jim Garten - July 02 2009 at 02:22 |

Welcome to the site catfood! It's nice to know that they're more gay prog fans out there. I'm an openly gay prog fan who met his boyfriend (Man Overboard
![]() I'm actually surprised that this style of music hasn't caught on in the gay community. I've never really cared for music that's typically associated, but prog speaks to me in ways that Cher or Madonna never could. If you haven't already, you should check out Arena. While none of the members are openly gay, they have a certain... chemistry about them. Many of their lyrics (intentionally or not) speak of issues that members of the GBLT community deal with everyday. And the music itself is totally fabulous as well! This song in particular has been very inspirational for me. The idea that it's not a choice, but that we are in fact chosen. It's one of those songs that makes me proud to be who I am every time I hear it. My gay anthem, you might say. Edited by Harry Hood - July 02 2009 at 00:50 |

It's not mentioned in their bio, but these guys are openly gay, though it's by no means the focus of their music or the live show. They got their start as a prog cover power duo, but have since moved on to (mostly) original material and lots and lots of monsters.
As far as openly gay prog musicians in general go, many of them don't advertise it because they feel the audience is already overly critical and analytical about every -other- aspect of their life. In popular music, a musician with a 'deviant' sexual orientation is usually sold on that selling point, with the music taking a backseat. For musicians who put music first, it's best to keep the focus on the music and put unnecessary distractions aside. Ambiguity is much more interesting. Nothing wrong with giving your keyboardist a playful slap on the ass after a great solo, right? I would like to somewhat tongue-in-cheek add that many progressive rock frontmen either also embrace the idea of an ambiguous presentation on that front, or maybe they've got the wrong idea of what is expected of a frontman. |
