Multiplayer... I never stuck with one! I was never that good and I had already started loosing interest with competitive play in any video games. Today I don't connect online for any gaming reason whatsoever, and its been that way for at least 3 years.
With AOM when I was 14 I remember going Norse. I remember got sick playing so much though, and I had to stop. I think I was beginning to push myself to the limits competitively, and I was only average.
Later, I bought games and never once went online with them, including games like RoN, CoD, BF: 1942... etc. Never once.

yes... the Aztec campaing was really native and interesting with all the Mystical aproach they gave it... but you remember there was a big mistake in their 4 episode, where you have to destroy a Wonder to free Tenochtitlán... you can skip a lot of the story if you made a direct attack to the wonder while it was in construction... jejeje... I remember I did it a lot of times... jejeje...

Nice... I agree with you people... the Teutonic Warriors were great... but I usually wait them with 80 or 90 elite plumed archers of the Mayas and they fall like dead flies before they can reach my troops... I use in multiplayer games Mayas and Aztecs... of course, I identify myself with that great culture of the mayas... as they lived where I born... but then I use Huns because they didn't need houses and vikings for their warriors that recover them selves alone and their nice boats... what was the name...??? I forgot... but I use a lot of civilizations, and it was difficult to use Mayas and Aztecs because they didn't have cavalry... but as I was really an addicted to the game... I could defeat anyone with my Archers and Eagle warriors...

I remember loving this game along with Rise of Nations a few years ago, and I remember grinding the Britons, BRIT BRIT BRIT BRIT, non-stop.

yes for me, too i played it 1 month ago with my friends on lan.. it was pretty fun again my favourite civilisation are the mongols because their special units were the best! they had a attack bonus against siege units and when some annoying trebuchets were about to bring down your castles you just needed a few of them, quickly rode outside and in a blink of an eye destroyed them greets

It's just a ride... <3

I must confess I played in much the same way. Who isn't a fan of building infrastructure?

Age of Empires II is a game about empires...and it happens to be my favorite of the lot. Never got better than that. III is pretty fun, and I, although cool, certainly shows its age. My favorite civilization? Hmm...I like the immediacy of certain infantry civilizations like the Celts and the Japanese, also a big fan of Briton. But probably my favorite was the Mongols. When I got my army of Mandolins together, I was an unstoppable horde. I'd just ride them over here, shoot the living crap outta this, wheel them over there, rinse, repeat.

I've played the tutorial for AOE2, but since I only have a 30GB hard drive and my computer has been acting up I went on a deleting spree. Soon I'll get it on again and be able to answer this poll. On the subject of old games, does/has anybody played Descent 3?

Ah, my brother used to choose them always! They're great at the begining of the match, since you don't need to build houses, that is if my memory is correct. However, later on, they're not that good, IMO. Hehe, don't think I'm a computer nerd Used to play it, and I'm sure all you did, as a kid! The quests were excellent! Someone must make a poll which of the quests is your fave!

Byzantines were objectively, the best...
However my preffered ones are the same as Robert, and for the same reason! Those "Caballero de la Orden Teutonic"(in spanish) are sooo cool!! and had 18 of attack or something like that!

Classic stuff, of course...
Franks were probably my favourite, easy to get to grips with, classy knights, superb unique unit, slam castles down everywhere. The Goths, in spite of being pretty disastrous until the expansion came out, were also fun... there was a pretty intense game against two hardest computers with that civ. Aztecs were lethal for sheer +14mn attack pikemen and infantry... I always found monks a bit too awkward to deploy in numbers. Oh, and the Turks were pretty fun with the ultra-bombards and mass light cavalry/handgunners.
So, yes, classic game, and I think just about all the civs had something going for them.

I was a big fan of Japan, and then the Turks and French (loved the farm refill benefit!).

Gotta give it to the vikings even though I can't remember playing them. Perhaps I should install it some day to our crappy computer and give them a try...
